Paju bakery café with cinnamon bread and pistachio strawberry: Barirus

In short

Barirus is a large two-floor bakery café on Bongseosan-ro in Paju-eup, Paju, Gyeonggi. Pulled in by the building's grand exterior while out on a drive, the writer tried the cinnamon bread and croissants baked fresh every morning, the house-roasted americano and the seasonal signature pistachio strawberry drink, then looked around the teepee zone on the outdoor lawn terrace. The bread, the drinks and the mood at Barirus were all good enough to come back with parents.

Today I want to tell you about a spontaneous drive I took with my husband recently, which led us to a large Paju café that I absolutely fell for: Barirus. We hadn't planned where to go at all, but while passing near the Paju publishing complex, we got pulled in by the building's grand exterior.

And wow! It exceeded our expectations — the atmosphere was amazing, and the drinks and bread were top-notch, so I really wanted to introduce it to you all. A Paju restaurant worth knowing, a café open into the early hours, a great meeting spot — all those labels fit 'Barirus.' Let me walk you through every spot, all the way down to the small emotional details!

How big is Barirus, and how is the parking?

Barirus is a huge building that's noticeable from far away, with a very spacious dedicated parking lot, so you really don't have to worry about parking. The first thing that surprised me upon arrival was just how massive the place was.

Excitedly, we opened the door and stepped in, and wow... the atmosphere from the entrance was on another level. High ceilings, an open layout, and stylish lighting mixed with lush green plants throughout gave the space a luxurious yet cozy feel. In particular, the long screen wall on one side of the first floor showed dreamlike, ever-changing visuals and lighting, giving the illusion of being at an art exhibition.

Seating and interior across both floors: good for groups?

Barirus is split across the first and second floors, and the space is very spacious with generous gaps between tables, making it great for having a private conversation. My husband kept exclaiming, "This place really has a great vibe!" right after we walked in. It felt luxurious enough for a date with a partner, but also for bringing your parents or hosting an important gathering.

Looking around the café, I could tell that the owner's sense of interior design was no joke — every single spot felt full of character. Every prop, every light fixture clearly had thought put into it. The large artificial trees, warm brick interior touches, and comfortable leather sofas combined to create a vintage yet sophisticated atmosphere.

And above all, the staff were so kind, which made me happy. They kindly recommended menu items when we ordered and explained how to use the café in detail, so even as first-time visitors, we felt completely at ease.

The outdoor lawn terrace and teepee zone at Barirus

One of Barirus's biggest draws is definitely the outdoor space! Even the view through the indoor floor-to-ceiling windows was exceptional, but once we stepped outside, a gorgeous terrace covered in lush green artificial grass opened up before us. From the outdoor terrace, you could take in the entire view of Paju, and it gave me a real feeling of my chest opening up!

On top of the lawn, there were emotionally charming teepees set up. Inside each teepee were comfortable camping chairs and a table, so you could get the feeling of being at a private glamping site. It's a truly perfect space to bring kids or gather cozily with friends for a camping-style vibe.

What bread does the Barirus bakery have?

Barirus offers breads baked fresh in-house every morning, alongside distinctive drinks. My husband and I are self-proclaimed bread fanatics, so whenever we go to a café, we always check out the drink and bakery lineup.

Cinnamon bread baked every morning

While browsing the bread display, I got pulled in by the smell of cinnamon and picked up the cinnamon bread! Even the visual — twisted delicately like a twisted dough — was golden brown and looked absolutely delicious. The moment I took a bite, the mild, spicy cinnamon aroma and sweet flavor spread through my mouth — it was pure art!

Thanks to the streusel crumble on top, the outside was crispy while the inside stayed chewy and moist — the texture was on point. The sweetness wasn't overwhelming, and the balance between the light, plain dough and the fragrant cinnamon flavor was perfectly struck, so it didn't get tiring and I kept going back for more.

The pairing with the americano we ordered was the best part! Between sips of coffee and bites of cinnamon bread, we emptied the plate in no time. If you love that refined cinnamon flavor, you absolutely must try this bread at Barirus!

The croissant at Barirus

The croissant, full of buttery flavor, was crispy on the outside and moist inside — the kind of bite that makes you happy the moment you take it. It wasn't overly rich, so it had a healthy taste that didn't get old and kept me reaching for more. Overall it was clean-tasting and really let the natural flavor of the ingredients shine, so I think even parents would love it.

House-roasted americano and the pistachio strawberry drink

The americano, brewed from house-roasted beans, had a nutty yet deep flavor — clean, with the aroma of the beans really coming through. It was genuinely perfect!

The seasonal signature pistachio strawberry drink! Even the visual was colorful and pretty, and after one sip, I was truly amazed... the nutty, creamy pistachio foam blended with the fresh, sweet strawberry latte base, and it was the kind of combination that makes you say 'this is insanely good' without thinking twice! You have to try it!

Barirus isn't just a place for coffee and bread. One side of the café has a variety of board games set up, so you can have a fun time with friends or family, and there's a long hallway lined with gallery-style artwork, so you can even take in some culture while you're there.

Looking for a Paju café open until 2 a.m.?

Another big advantage of Barirus is that it's open into the early hours of the morning! Usually, large, good-vibe cafés close early, which is often disappointing, but this place stays open late, so it's perfect for enjoying the quiet, relaxed atmosphere of the early hours.

We stayed until quite late ourselves, and once night fell, the lighting shifted to feel even more atmospheric, giving off a completely different charm from daytime. If you're looking for a Paju café that stays open into the early hours, Barirus is a top choice.

With such a spacious, comfortable space plus an outdoor terrace, teepees, board games, and more to enjoy, it seems like an ideal spot for year-end gatherings, group visits, or family get-togethers.

Is Barirus worth the trip? Final verdict

We visited by chance, but between the impressive scale, the interior packed with charm at every turn, the outdoor lawn terrace and teepees overlooking all of Paju, the kind service, and above all the delicious signature drinks and wholesome bread — this large Paju café, Barirus, was a total win on every front.

I'd strongly recommend it as a date spot with a partner, a family outing destination, or a gathering place with friends. Since it's open late, anyone looking for a Paju café open into the early hours should definitely check it out. My husband and I are already planning to come back next time with our parents!
