Gochujang pork belly and LA galbi at Haetteuljip, a Paju grill house

My friend and I hadn't met in a while, and while figuring out what to eat we both wanted pork belly and LA galbi — so we ended up at Haetteuljip, a Korean BBQ spot near Yadang Station!

Since it's open from 4:30pm until 5am the next day, I thought it might just be a bar, but once we got in, the atmosphere was very much a proper BBQ restaurant — which made it even better.

Where Haetteuljip is and what hours it keeps

Apparently the name — which means "the house where the sun rises" — comes from the fact that it runs from evening all the way until sunrise.

Inside Haetteuljip: the room and the tables

Today's spot is just a 3-minute walk from Yadang Station.

It felt almost like a warning sign that if you walk in the wrong way, you might end up drinking until sunrise the next day, haha haha.

Haetteuljip is a Paju Pay merchant.

I came around 6pm on a weekday, and since it's a late-night place, I think I was the very first customer. Most of the tables seat four, and there's also space for larger groups.

The highlight of Haetteuljip is being upstairs — even so, there's a wide-open view outside, so the meat and drinks taste even better at this Yadang Station bar 😊 I bet it's even prettier in the evening.

What to order at Haetteuljip, plus the receipt review gift

People kept recommending the gochujang pork belly and LA galbi at Haetteuljip.

First up — if you leave a Naver receipt review, you get a free bottle of bam makgeolli (chestnut rice wine). I get terrible hangovers from makgeolli, so I'll pass on this one, haha 🤣

If it's your first time at Haetteuljip and you're not sure what to order, I'd recommend the set menus — the 2-person or 3-person sets are priced very reasonably! Ordering a set also comes with a jjigae (stew).

The side menu at Haetteuljip includes cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew), sundubu-jjigae, mul-naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), bibim-naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), and fried rice.

This is exactly why I called Haetteuljip a great-value bar earlier — soju and beer are ₩4,000 a bottle, which feels like a magic spell that makes you order one more round whenever you're on the fence 😁

If you order the couple set, it comes with either cheonggukjang or sundubu-jjigae.

Let's take a look at the self-serve bar at this Yadang Station BBQ spot.

A self-serve bar at a bar?? I didn't expect much, but there were five or more side dishes.

And on the wall there's a big screen, adding a whole ladle's worth of atmosphere.

Tasting the 39,900-won couple set for two

I tried the couple set for two — gochujang pork belly + LA galbi + sundubu-jjigae — for ₩39,900 (rice not included).

The bouncy, silky sundubu caught my eye first. I was worried it'd be salty since this is a bar, but it wasn't — the seasoning was mild enough to work as a proper meal, even something kids could eat.

The LA galbi comes as two rows — that sweet-and-salty combo is addictive, and the meat came off the bone easily, so it was comfortable and delicious to eat.

The rice comes piled up in a generous mound.

Why Haetteuljip works for a late night of grilled meat and drinks

If you're looking for a bar near Yadang Station where you can eat meat and drink at the same time, I highly recommend Haetteuljip! Since it's open until 5am the next day, it's hard to find a better place to catch up with a friend you haven't seen in a while.

That bouncy sundubu might even be better than the one at Bokchang-dong.

Once evening comes, the weather cools down and you get to eat with that wide-open view — I'll definitely have to go back soon!!
