Visit to Ossamgak, a Korean restaurant in Mokdong, Dongtan

Ossamgak

Last week, after a family errand, we all ended up having lunch together. Everyone agreed they wanted something clean and filling rather than heavy, so we headed to Ossamgak in Mokdong, Dongtan.

Ossamgak is a restaurant near Wangbaesan Sports Park specializing in stir-fried squid and bossam (boiled pork wrap). The menu is mostly Korean home-style dishes, which made it a good fit for a family meal.

Where to park at Ossamgak: 90 minutes free at the Mok-dong 1 public lot

🚗 We parked at Mokdong 1 public parking lot

There is a small parking area right in front of the Ossamgak building, but the spaces are limited. We parked instead at the nearby Mokdong 1 public parking lot and walked over. It offers 90 minutes free parking, which was plenty for our meal, and the lot itself is fairly spacious, so you don't need to stress about parking 👍

Inside Ossamgak: seating and room for groups

🌿 Clean interior with generous table spacing

Inside, the space is decorated in white and wood tones, clean and simple. There are plenty of tables, so it looks like it could handle a large group, and what I liked most was the spacing between tables. Ossamgak leaves plenty of room between tables, which makes it feel comfortable 👍

Each table has a table-order system, so ordering is easy and convenient.

🥢 What four adults ordered

With four adults at the table, we ordered two servings of the ossam set meal, a small garlic bossam, and one seafood pancake 😋

After a short wait, the side dishes came out neatly arranged — japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), salad, bean sprouts, and more.

Not long after the side dishes were set down, the garlic bossam and stir-fried squid arrived too!

As the dishes filled up the table one by one, just looking at it made me hungrier 😂

How to turn Ossamgak's stir-fried squid into bibimbap

🌶️ Stir-fried squid tastes even better as bibimbap

The ossam set meal comes with stir-fried squid and garlic bossam, plus doenjang jjigae and rice, and — most importantly — a large mixing bowl for bibimbap.

Large mixing bowl with egg and seaweed flakes
Bibimbap mixed with stir-fried squid and side dishes

The bowl already has egg and seaweed flakes in it, so you just add rice, spoon in some stir-fried squid and side dishes, and mix it all together.

And there it is — squid bibimbap! Stir-fried squid is a familiar lunch dish for office workers, but Ossamgak's version isn't overly seasoned, and the flavor really wakes up your appetite, so I kept reaching for more. The squid blends well with the sauce, and the egg and seaweed flakes soften the spiciness just enough to make it great with rice.

Adding a spoonful of doenjang jjigae on the side made for another great combo 😋 The savory, warm broth balances out the spiciness of the squid nicely, so you keep alternating between a spoonful of rice and a spoonful of soup 👍

Garlic bossam: good plain, better with the garlic extract on top

🧄 The bossam meat itself was delicious

For the garlic bossam, I first tried the pork without the garlic extract on top. It was quite good even on its own — not dry at all, tender and soft, easy to eat without feeling heavy.

Then I tried it with the garlic extract drizzled on top, and it added a whole new charm 😮 The sharp, slightly sweet flavor of garlic paired with the tender pork cut through the richness, and I kept coming back for more.

And of course, bossam calls for a wrap 😋 I placed the pork on a lettuce leaf along with a piece of kimchi, and the tender meat, crunchy kimchi, and fresh lettuce all came together perfectly ♥️

How big is the seafood pancake? A full plate with shrimp and squid

🦐 The seafood pancake was more generous than I expected

While we were busy eating, the seafood pancake arrived! It filled a large plate and looked crisply pan-fried on the outside — and looking closer, it was packed with quite a lot of shrimp and squid.

We cut it into bite-sized pieces and dipped them into the soy sauce that came alongside.

The outside was crispy and the inside was full of green onion and seafood, so every bite gave you the texture of squid and shrimp.

Free coffee at Ossamgak right after the meal

☕ Coffee right after the meal, no need to go elsewhere

After finishing the meal full, there's no need to head to a café separately — Ossamgak has a coffee machine set up in one corner of the restaurant. The coffee seemed to use good-quality beans, with a really strong, nutty flavor, so dessert was taken care of neatly.

Why all four of us left happy after lunch in Mok-dong, Dongtan

👍 All four family members left satisfied

As we left, everyone in the family said the same thing: it was really good! Not just the stir-fried squid, but the garlic bossam, seafood pancake, and even the bossam kimchi were all delicious 😁

I think this is a great place for a day when you want a Korean lunch that's filling but not too heavy. If you're near Mokdong, Dongtan and looking for a clean, tasty Korean restaurant for lunch, Ossamgak is worth adding to your list. One family member couldn't join us that day due to a schedule conflict, but the food was so good that we're planning to go back together soon 😆
