Dongtan Bansong-dong kimchi jjigae set for two with ham and ramen

In short

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is a kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and samgyeopsal (grilled pork belly) restaurant tucked inside the Bansong-dong food alley in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Two of us ordered the [Value] Kimchi Jjigae Set for two at 26,000 won, added ramen noodles for 1,000 won and extra ham, and still paid under 30,000 won, with the deep, rich broth and the thick rolled omelet standing out most. Yangpuni is worth recommending for a dinner where you want pork and stew settled in one order, with no menu debate.

Kimchi jjigae table setting at Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal in Bansong-dong, Dongtan

I had a dinner appointment near Bansong-dong in Dongtan after a while, and I heard there was a good Bansong-dong restaurant nearby, so I went to check it out. It's a place where you can eat kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and samgyeopsal (pork belly) together, so I could go without any menu-picking stress!

Where Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is, and its hours

  • Location: 1F, 36-13 Dongtanbansong 3-gil, Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal
  • Hours: 11:00 – 24:00
  • Break time: 15:00 – 16:00
  • Parking: available

The break time runs from 3pm to 4pm, so keep that in mind!

It's located in a commercial building inside the Bansong-dong dining alley, so it wasn't hard to find alongside the other restaurants nearby. The sign is pretty noticeable, so even on a first visit I could walk straight in without getting lost.

About 3 parking spots were available right in front of the restaurant!

The tables had plenty of space between them, so it was easy to chat comfortably without worrying about the next table over!

There are side dishes at the self-bar too, so you can help yourself to as much as you like.

The restroom is inside the restaurant and kept clean, so it seemed like a fine spot for a work dinner with a few drinks too. Among Bansong-dong restaurants, it's oddly rare to find one that pays this much attention to details like that, which left a good impression.

And the chopsticks were all individually, hygienically wrapped, which I really liked. You could tell they cared a lot about hygiene.

What the kimchi jjigae set for two costs

The two of us ordered the [Value] Kimchi Jjigae Set for two – ₩26,000, ramen noodle add-on – ₩1,000, and extra ham.

What does the kimchi jjigae broth taste like?

Starting with the kimchi jjigae set, the broth was rich but clean-finishing, not heavy or murky at all.

The kimchi tasted like it had been aged a good while, with a tangy flavor well soaked in, so it kept pulling me back for more with rice. The spice level wasn't harsh either, just about right, so even someone who can't handle spicy food much could enjoy it without much trouble.

The pork in the set, plus the extra ham

The meat that came with it was really big. It was also tender and clean, with no gamey smell,

and when we boiled it in the stew broth, the meat's juices soaked into the soup and brought out even more flavor. You could tell they paid attention to the quality of the meat itself. We also added ham — it wasn't cheap ham but one with a high pork content, so it had a nice salty edge that paired really well with the kimchi jjigae. I'd recommend adding the ham too, haha.

Is the 1,000-won ramen noodle add-on worth it?

We added the ramen noodles separately, and since the stew broth was so rich, it soaked into the noodles nicely and stayed satisfying all the way to the last bite.

Just adding one order of ramen noodles definitely boosted how full we got, so it was good value too.

The thick rolled omelet (gyeran-mari)

The egg roll (gyeranmari) left a real impression too. It was fluffy and moist in texture, and the portion was quite generous.

It was seasoned lightly, not too salty, so it seemed like a taste that families with kids could enjoy without worry.

The size was also really thick and big, an absolute steal. Eating the egg roll together with the kimchi jjigae was pure bliss!

Getting the egg roll, ham, and ramen noodles on top of a kimchi jjigae set for two, all for under ₩30,000, was such a great deal.
