After work, my husband and I went to Jeongja-dong for sotbap (rice cooked in a stone pot).
I'd also been to the hospital that day, and the doctor said our baby is big for his dates and might end up an oversized baby, so she suggested I go on a gestational diabetes diet,,
So instead of anything spicy or heavy, I figured I should eat something healthy, and that's how we ended up at this Jungja Station restaurant, Morang Haemul Sotbap.

Where is Morang Haemul Sotbap Jungja Station branch? 4–5 minutes from Exit 5
Morang Haemul Sotbap Jungja Station branch is on the 2nd floor of Prugio City 2 near Jungja Station. It's a 4–5 minute walk from Exit 5 of Jungja Station!
We walked there that day. Take the escalator up to the 2nd floor and you'll see the standing sign right away.
The basics of good rice, haha. Just looking at the photo made me feel like it'd be a healthy meal, haha.
Since sotbap starts cooking right after you order, it takes about 15 minutes. Even if it's just the rice, it's the kind of thing you'd finish a whole bowl of. They said it's premium-grade rice milled within 7 days, so even plain rice sounded like it'd taste amazing, hahaha.

Which sotbap to order: octopus and scallop sotbap, or octopus bulgogi with cheese
Morang Haemul Sotbap Jungja Station branch has such a wide variety of sotbap menus that I almost got decision paralysis. Reviews said a lot of people order the octopus scallop sotbap, so I ordered that, and I'd also heard the octopus bulgogi sotbap with added cheese was amazing, so we ended up ordering both!

The eel sotbap, the snow crab soy sauce sotbap, and the beef eggplant sotbap all looked amazing too,, feels like I'll have to come back and check them all off the list one by one, hahaha.

The 15-minute wait: a room that suits both group dinners and solo diners
So we ordered and had to wait 15 minutes,, it made me realize how used to fast food I'd gotten,, maybe because I was hungry, but those 15 minutes felt so long, haha.
While waiting, I snapped a few photos of the inside. There were a lot of 4-person tables, and also big tables large enough for group meals. There are a lot of offices nearby, so it seemed like a great spot for a work dinner too!! Because there was such a wide range of evening drinking snacks and makgeolli, hahaha.

Octopus meatball sotbap, eaten in one bite with the shredded potato
Finally, after the agonizing 15 minutes, the food arrived! This is the octopus meatball sotbap I ordered.

It comes with 4 side dishes, soup, and seaweed on the side. They say pretty food tastes better, and honestly the whole presentation was so pretty ^^

Both the meatballs and the octopus were soft and tender, and underneath was seasoned shredded potato, so eating rice + shredded potato + octopus/meatball together as a trio was absolutely delicious. The shredded potato is already seasoned, so it works perfectly even without any extra side dishes, haha.

What does octopus bulgogi sotbap with added cheese taste like?
And this is the octopus bulgogi sotbap + added cheese my husband ordered. With the cheese in it, it had a savory, spicy-sweet flavor that basically anyone would like, no matter their taste.

The pot isn't huge, so I worried the portion might be small, but it definitely wasn't skimpy, haha. Finishing a whole pot left me full, and more than anything, it sat easy on my stomach.
Since it's sotbap, I assumed we'd scoop out all the rice first, add water, and eat it as scorched-rice soup, but this place is the style where you just scrape up the crispy rice stuck to the bottom and eat it as is, hahaha. And that scorched rice is seriously so good, hahahaha.
Mix in the cheese while the pot's still hot and scrape it all together, hahaha. My husband fed me a spoonful to try, and it was so good I think I stole back 3-4 more spoonfuls, haha. Did I basically eat 1.5 servings, hahaha.

The 4 side dishes at Morang Haemul Sotbap, especially the enoki mushrooms
The side dishes that came with it all paired well, so we cleaned every one of them without exception. The enoki mushroom side dish especially had this nice crunchy texture that made it particularly good.

Who to bring to Morang Haemul Sotbap Jungja Station branch
Looking around at the other tables, quite a few people were eating solo, and there were also a lot of office workers from nearby coming for dinner.
It's a healthy meal, so it seems like it'd be a satisfying spot to bring your parents, and kids seem like they'd happily finish a whole pot too, no matter their taste — a solid Jungja Station restaurant. If you're looking for a good place to eat near Jungja Station, I recommend Morang Haemul Sotbap!
