Bucheon bar date with shrimp pizza and beef roll lasagna: People & Peoples

I had heard for ages that the pizza at People & Peoples was good. I was curious, but the timing never worked out—until I finally went with my boyfriend this time. I had remembered it as a good pizza spot in Sang-dong, Bucheon, but once we got there, everything from the atmosphere to the food made me think it was such a good choice for a date.

A place that caught my eye on Tteooreu-gil in Sang-dong

It is tucked inside Sang-dong's Tteooreu-gil, and as you walk around the area, People & Peoples' polished atmosphere catches your eye. Even from outside, it looked like they had put real thought into the interior; inside, the tables and furniture suited the overall mood beautifully too. The place was tidy, so my first impression was great. When I look for a good restaurant-bar in Sang-dong, I care about the space as much as the food, so I liked this from the start.

Because it stays open late, it seemed ideal for carrying on from dinner to a casual drink. It would also suit a day when you want a Sang-dong restaurant-bar with a nice atmosphere.

A semi-terrace seat that was neither fully outdoors nor indoors

The weather was lovely that day, so we had originally planned to sit outside. But as we looked around, there was a space that felt like a semi-terrace—not completely outdoors, but not quite indoors either. We chose it without hesitation. We could enjoy the outdoor feeling while sitting more comfortably, so it was perfect for eating and chatting with my boyfriend.

They had also gathered blankets in one corner for guests to use freely. It was such a welcome touch for people like us who enjoy sitting on the terrace side. The mood also made sense for all the people who come here on a nice day for pizza and beer.

Choosing lasagna instead of the planned pizza-and-pasta pairing

Our first plan was very simple: one pizza and one pasta. But as we looked through the menu, there was lasagna, gambas (Spanish garlic shrimp), and more and more things we wanted. After thinking it over for quite a while, we chose the beef roll lasagna, whose appearance had made us curious, and the shrimp pizza. I had heard this Bucheon spot was known for its pizza, so we could not skip that—but I could not give up the lasagna either.

As soon as I saw the beef roll lasagna, I knew we had chosen well. It looked different from the usual lasagna I had in mind, so I was wondering how to eat it when the owner came over and explained. Rather than eating each component separately, they said it would taste much better if we cut off small pieces so several ingredients could go into one bite together.

They even brought us scissors for cutting the lasagna into small pieces, and they looked so elegant that my boyfriend and I had another look at them. We followed the instructions and ate pieces with several ingredients together, and the flavors in my mouth were really lovely. The charm of the beef roll lasagna definitely came alive when everything was eaten in one bite rather than separately.

And then came the shrimp pizza we had been waiting for. The shrimp were plump and generously scattered over the top, so I was happy from the moment I picked up a slice. More than anything, the pastry crust was exactly my style. The crisp, flaky layers with shrimp made it just the kind of pizza I love. Once I tried it, I understood why people come here for pizza and beer.

The unexpected highlight: finely chopped carrot

Oddly enough, the carrot was what stayed with me from the shrimp pizza. Finely chopped carrot appeared here and there, working as a subtle little kick. I am not usually someone who goes out of my way to eat carrots, but this pizza was different. It did not stand out too much between the shrimp and crust, yet it was fun how it gently changed the texture and flavor.

Sauce for when you want some heat

They also served a separate sauce for anyone who likes spicy flavors. It was nice to eat the pizza as it was, then add the sauce midway for a different feel and alternate between the two. The pickles that came with it were crunchy too, and having one at a time while eating pizza refreshed my palate. If you love pizza and beer together, this is a menu worth remembering.

An evening atmosphere that was great for a date

The food being delicious was wonderful, but that day the seat and atmosphere suited us so well that my boyfriend and I had a really enjoyable time. It had the kind of mood where you could set down good food and talk slowly, rather than hurriedly eat in a crowded place and leave. If you are looking for a Sang-dong restaurant-bar but prefer a date-friendly space over an overly bar-like mood, I think this feeling would work nicely.

We had eaten well—and then my bag was gone

Then something unexpected happened at the very end. We had eaten deliciously and walked out in a great mood, but I must have been distracted because I left my bag right in the restaurant. The thing was, neither of us had noticed at all. Then the owner came running after us from behind and handed me my bag. I had not even realized I had left it behind until the owner brought it to me, so I was truly grateful.

People & Peoples felt good right through to the end

I had already felt that the owner and staff were kind during the meal, but the bag incident made the place even more memorable. There are dishes I want to try again based on the food alone, but the service that day left me feeling so good that People & Peoples itself became a happy memory. On a day when I want pizza plus several other dishes among Bucheon's Sang-dong restaurants, I think I will remember it again.

At first, I went simply to try the pizza I had only heard about, but it was the beef roll lasagna that really stayed with me too. I want to eat the shrimp pizza's plump shrimp and pastry crust again, along with the unexpectedly good carrot. Next time, before the weather gets colder, I want to go back, order other dishes we debated but did not get this time, and sit somewhere that lets me properly enjoy the outdoor atmosphere at a relaxed pace.
