Yongsan izakaya for uni hosomaki: Hannam Tatsu
In short
Hannam Tatsu is a Japanese izakaya in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul, with a large bar counter and moody lighting. We stopped by for a second round of drinks and had beer, avocado and tuna prosciutto tataki, and shrimp-and-uni hosomaki; the hosomaki was especially my thing. Verdict: a lovely pick for a date, blind date, or atmospheric second-round drinks.

Hannam Tatsu location and visitor information
Hannam Tatsu, a Yongsan izakaya, sits roughly between Hannam Station on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line and Hangangjin Station on Line 6. It is a little way from either station, so taking the bus may be more convenient. The weather has been so nice lately, though, that walking from the station did not seem like too much at all haha.
If you are driving, valet parking is available: ₩5,000 for the first two hours, then ₩3,000 for each additional 30 minutes.
An upscale Hannam-dong izakaya atmosphere

Hannam Tatsu in Yongsan felt like the exact upscale Hannam-dong izakaya you picture in your head. A huge bar counter runs through the middle, and we could watch the chefs cooking right in front of us in real time.
With its dim lighting and polished atmosphere, it seemed perfect for a date or a blind date! We sat at the bar and loved it so much that I would recommend bar seating unless you are visiting in a bigger group haha.
Hannam Tatsu menu and what we ordered

Hannam Tatsu's menu is broadly Japanese in style and had such a wide selection. There were so many refined, delicious-looking dishes that we had a hard time choosing haha.
Since we had already eaten, we ordered snacks to go with beer: avocado and tuna prosciutto tataki (₩38,000), hosomaki (thin sushi rolls) topped with lobster shrimp and uni (sea urchin roe) (₩35,000), Suntory Premium Malt's (₩13,000), Yebisu draft beer (₩15,000), and Kirin bottled beer (₩10,000).
Yebisu, Kirin, and Suntory beer

The beers came out first, haha. Just looking at them, they seemed so cold and refreshing, right? They are all popular Japanese beers, and every one of them was tasty haha.
Personally, I love Yebisu draft beer, so that was my favorite~~ They also have plenty of alcoholic drinks beyond beer, which was nice because you can choose something that suits your food.
Complimentary snack and tataki soy sauce

Hannam Tatsu's complimentary snack was danmuji (pickled yellow radish) mixed with katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes). It was quietly special—good with beer and almost like a little side dish—so we got one refill haha. They also gave us soy sauce for dipping the tataki.
Avocado and tuna prosciutto tataki

The tuna prosciutto tataki came first, haha, and it looked so pretty. Two beautifully trimmed avocado roses were placed on the plate, alongside sliced tataki wrapped in prosciutto and a salad.
The avocado was perfectly ripened, and it went wonderfully with the tuna tataki and prosciutto. It is a dish that looks pretty and tastes good, and it is comparatively affordable too, so I could see why it is popular.
Hosomaki topped with shrimp and uni

Next came the hosomaki topped with shrimp and uni! It is a small mini gimbap (seaweed rice roll) topped with plump raw shrimp, uni, and caviar. You brush it with the sauce underneath before eating.
Oh, this was exactly my thing haha. Neither the shrimp nor the uni had any fishiness at all, so the ingredients tasted fresh and worked beautifully with the gimbap. If I visit again, I think I would definitely order this one again.
How it was for dates and second-round drinks
Overall, I would recommend Hannam Tatsu if you are looking for an izakaya with a great atmosphere in Hannam-dong. Its dim lighting and upscale mood make it good for dates and blind dates, of course, and being able to watch the chefs cook from the bar makes it quite appealing for a second round of drinks too.
We came after having a first-round meal and enjoyed light snacks and beer. The avocado and tuna prosciutto tataki satisfied from its looks through to its flavor, while the shrimp-and-uni hosomaki was personally a total hit.
The uni and shrimp tasted especially fresh, with barely any fishiness, so it is a dish I would want to order again on my next visit haha. There was also a varied beer selection, making it easy to pick drinks for the food, and the menu is so broad that I would like to properly try the meal dishes next time.
If you are looking in Hannam-dong for an upscale izakaya, a Japanese restaurant that is good for dates, or a bar for second-round drinks, Hannam Tatsu is worth keeping in mind!
