Suwon sundaeguk restaurant open 7am on weekends with kids: Gohyangok

In short

Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Suwon Omokcheon Branch is a sundaeguk (pork and blood sausage soup) restaurant in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, serving two versions — spicy and mild — in a broth simmered with hwangchil tree. On a late Sunday morning the writer ordered the spicy sundaeguk for 12,000 won, the mild sundaeguk for 11,000 won and a hinoki cypress steamed platter for 7,000 won, and even a child who cannot eat spicy food finished the mild bowl. Gohyangok opens at 7am on weekends, making it a solid choice when you want a hot bowl of soup early in the day.

Woke up late on a Sunday morning What should I eat? I'm craving something hot and hearty like guk-bap (soup with rice)!

What kind of place is Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk in Omokcheon-dong, Suwon?

Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Suwon Omokcheon Branch is a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) restaurant at 4 Seosuwon-ro, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do. It's a well-known spot in Suwon for its rich, spicy sundaeguk that I've come back to many times.

  • Sits right where the Gosaek-dong, Omokcheon-dong, and Bongdam neighborhoods overlap!
  • Walkable along the trail by Hwangguji stream, directly facing "Old Ferry Donut"
  • Weekdays 08:00–24:00 / Weekends 07:00–24:00, last order 23:00
  • Groups welcome, takeout, reservations available

Inside Gohyangok: the dining room and atmosphere

Exterior of Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Suwon Omokcheon Branch with tiled eaves

It's in Omokcheon-dong, which is quite a distance from my house, but Gohyangok's spicy sundaeguk is so good I couldn't resist coming back ❤ The place is spacious, and the tile-roofed eaves give it a stylish, traditional Korean touch.

Private parking lot with room for 30+ cars

What especially caught my eye was the restaurant's own wide parking lot — room for 30+ cars at once, so convenient!

Spacious, comfortable interior of the sundaeguk restaurant

The interior is spacious, comfortable, and has a somewhat sleek, modern sundaeguk-restaurant vibe — but the taste is the real deal 🧡 That makes it even better 😍

Seating decorated in wood and white tones

The mix of cozy wood tones and white tones gives it a clean, tidy feel. On weekday lunches this is a line-up spot, so waiting is a must! The space is big and comfortable enough for group gatherings, work dinners, family outings, solo meals, dates — any occasion.

The menu: spicy sundaeguk or mild sundaeguk

Menu board listing spicy and mild sundaeguk

Suwon sundaeguk favorite Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk simmers its broth deep with its signature hwangchil tree stock, and offers both a spicy version — bold from the first spoonful — and a mild version with a clean, milky broth, which makes it great for visiting with kids! There's also a wide range of other dishes like hwangtae haejangguk (dried pollack hangover soup), siraegi sundaeguk (dried radish greens sundaeguk), spicy naejang gukbap (offal soup), and nostalgic hamburg steak, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste!

Side menu board with hinoki platter and squid sundae

The side menu is just as varied and delicious — fragrant hinoki cypress steamer bossam (boiled pork), hinoki sundae (blood sausage), the combined hinoki platter, signature squid sundae, buckwheat pancakes, seasoned pollack roe salad, and more ❤

Basic side dishes with thin noodles and yeolmu baek-kimchi

The basic side dishes are neat and tidy too. Thin noodles to mix into the soup are a nice touch! And the clean yeolmu baek-kimchi (young radish white kimchi) was so tasty.

This hinoki platter comes with a coupon you can get by searching "Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk" on Naver, so be sure to use it and get it as a freebie :)

A generous, full-hearted spread of soup — even the kid ate well and it felt nutritious, so glad we came~~

Gohyangok's spicy sundaeguk comes out already seasoned hot. It arrives quickly too, so it's great for a fast lunch when you're busy~!

How were the hinoki platter and the somyeon noodles?

At the very bottom of the hinoki steamer sits crunchy bean sprouts, topped with all the special dishes — tender boiled pork bossam, properly made abai sundae, kimchi pancake — all delicious.

Putting the thin noodles in first and digging right in — now that's a real food expert 👍 Adding the noodles makes the soup even more filling.

Adding thin noodles into the sundaeguk

The stone pot is packed with clean, hearty head meat and sundae, and the rich broth has no off-flavor at all — you can taste the nourishment in it!

One sip of the spicy sundaeguk broth and you feel totally cleared out! Great for a hangover cure~~ Pairing abai sundae with yeolmu baek-kimchi balances the rich, savory sundae with the crisp, clean taste of the radish greens — so good!

No reused side dishes, plus a self-serve bar

Leftover side dishes are never reused. Eat with peace of mind! Such a reassuring sign, I love it 👍❤ A place that's neat, clean, and does things hygienically well~

Self-serve bar stocked with kimchi and sauces

At the self-serve bar they've set out seokbakji (radish kimchi), kimchi, yeolmu mul-kimchi (watery radish kimchi), chili peppers, sauces, scissors, small plates, and more — just help yourself whenever you need.
