Today I went with a friend to a hearty, health-packed Korean restaurant!! As someone living alone, squid pork stir-fry (ojingeo jeyuk dureuchigi) was such a welcome menu item for me haha.
You know those days when cooking a bunch of side dishes at home feels like too much effort, but eating delivery food every day also feels like a letdown? That's when you should visit Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch!!

What is a weekend evening like at Ok Doenjang?
We visited on a weekend evening! And wow haha, even though it wasn't the peak dinner hour, people kept coming in steadily.
There were quite a lot of people who came just for a meal, but also plenty who came for a drink, or for group gatherings and get-togethers!! The whole place had a lively, buzzing atmosphere, so it seemed perfect for having a drink with friends over a meal too.
The Ok Doenjang menu: hot pots, pancakes, salads and stir-fries
Menu
The menu was more varied than I expected! From the signature doenjang (soybean paste) hot pot to sundubu (soft tofu) hot pot and boiled pork hot pot, there's a wide range of hot pot options!
On top of that there are pancakes, salads, and stir-fry dishes too, so it's great whether you're coming for a proper meal or picking dishes as drinking snacks. There's also a nice selection of specialty dishes and drinks, so it seemed like a great spot to come with friends and order a bit of everything haha.
Which side dishes come with the meal?
At Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch, the side dishes come out right after you order! The basics are stir-fried kimchi + pork fish cake stir-fry + yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi).
The stir-fried kimchi in particular was so good with rice haha. The fish cake stir-fry with pork mixed in was surprisingly a treat too, and with the tangy, crunchy yeolmu kimchi on top, the side dish combo was just right!

Squid and pork dureuchigi for two, 29,000 won: how big is the portion?

The first thing I thought the moment it arrived haha, "The portion is insane???" Even for two people it was genuinely huge, like wow... how are we going to finish this? But let's just dig in!! Here we go~~
The rice was so nice too — warm like it had just been cooked, with the grains still nice and firm.
Then we added the hand-cut noodles and shook it all up~~!! Mixed together, the sauce soaked right into the noodles and it was a whole other treat.
And above all, there's really a ton of pork and squid in it!! With so much pork and squid packed in, it was fun to pick out the pieces haha. Delicious with rice, and once we mixed in the noodles, the portion was seriously massive.
River snail and minari pancake, 15,000 won: why we chose it over the squid version

Apparently squid minari (water dropwort) pancake is one of Ok Doenjang's best-selling dishes! We debated, but since I wanted squid in the stir-fry, I went with something different for the pancake and ordered the river snail minari pancake instead.
And the river snail minari pancake was genuinely packed with river snails!! Best of all, the pancake was fried up nice and crispy, so it was delicious. The fragrant minari combined with the chewy texture of the river snails made for a really great combo!
It didn't feel like just eating a greasy pancake — with the minari and river snails in it, it somehow felt healthy too~ And it paired really well with the squid pork stir-fry, so ordering the river snail minari pancake was a great call on our part!!
Is Ok Doenjang Suwon Hommaesil Branch worth a visit?
This was exactly the place to go when you want a proper Korean meal! We came away completely full after the squid pork stir-fry plus river snail minari pancake. With hot pots available even for one person and a lunch special menu too, I'd recommend it if you're looking for a hearty Korean meal in Hommaesil.
