Mokpo monkfish stew restaurant with extra roe: Sin Mokpo Agujjim
In short
Sin Mokpo Agujjim Main Branch is a monkfish stew (agujjim) restaurant on Ogam-ro near Peace Square in Mokpo. The order was the boneless agujjim wrapped in beef brisket at the mildest of the three spice levels, with extra monkfish roe added, plus a complimentary jjiri-tang (clear fish soup), whole squid and fried rice to finish. Sin Mokpo Agujjim suits anyone who loves roe and soft roe but cannot handle much heat.

Sin Mokpo Agujjim is famous as a local favorite in Mokpo! Since it's near Peace Square, it was easy to stop by while looking for a good Mokpo agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) spot. Here's my review!

Inside Sin Mokpo Agujjim: seating and table setup
Sin Mokpo Agujjim Main Branch has a long, narrow layout with plenty of seating further inside! So there's no need to worry about walking in without a reservation.
I snapped a photo of the cute little talisman doll hanging in the shop.

Side dishes and the free jjiri-tang (clear fish soup)
Side dishes like tofu, zucchini, and bean sprouts came out, and they were all tasty and clean — great for whetting the appetite before the agujjim arrives!

And what was really great was that they gave us a free jjiri-tang (clear fish soup)! The owner was so kind about bringing out extras that it made the whole experience feel warm.

The soup was packed with fish, mussels, and even pollack roe — a hearty soup, and I couldn't believe it was free at this Mokpo restaurant!!! It even had minari (water dropwort) in it, a refreshing, clean broth dish — so, so, so good!!!

Lunch specials and takeout orders get up to ₩10,000 off, and if you leave a receipt review, they give you fried rice for free lol — agujjim absolutely needs fried rice at the end, right?
The menu: boneless monkfish options and three spice levels

From brisket-wrapped agujjim to whole boneless agujjim!! This Mokpo spot even has three spice levels, and I loved that Sin Mokpo Agujjim offers a boneless menu option too. Boneless monkfish is easier to eat when dining in, which is a nice touch!!
Usually agujjim menus are labeled with serving sizes like (for 2) or (for 3), which can feel restrictive since you have to order for that exact headcount — but here, there was a friendly note telling you to order according to how much you actually plan to eat haha.

Three sauces served with the agujjim
I tried making all three sauce combinations listed at the bottom of the menu for enjoying agujjim!!
- Owner's pick — chojang (vinegar chili paste) + fresh wasabi
- Mokpo style — vinegar + chili powder
- Basic style — the restaurant's secret soy sauce
I tried all of them this way! Making all three sauces meant I could keep enjoying the dish in different ways the whole meal~~
The whole squid event and adding extra monkfish roe
They're currently running an event where whole squid is added on top when you order agujjim, so a whole squid was sitting right on top of mine.

It was made so deliciously!! And since I love roe and pollack roe so much, I added extra roe today! The amount of roe was huge, which was even more surprising!!!

Agujjim wrapped in beef brisket, bite by bite
And beef brisket comes out alongside the dish. Wow, agujjim with beef brisket? I never expected that combination. Served neatly on a clean grill plate, it really felt like a proper barbecue experience~~

I can't handle spicy food well, so I picked the mildest level, and it turned out to be just the right amount of kick I could actually enjoy!!

Grilling the brisket~ slicing the whole squid~ a feast for the eyes and the mouth!!!

Wrapping the agujjim in brisket made for a truly mouth-filling, satisfying bite!!! The portion was really huge, so honestly, even a small-appetite group of three might have plenty even with the fried rice?? You can also add roe or pollack roe, so eating it that way would probably be delicious too haha.

Finishing with crispy fried rice
I finished off with a portion of fried rice, and instead of using the leftover agujjim sauce, they make it separately and bring it out fresh! They even crisped up the bottom, which made it even better!!! Honestly one of the best fried rices I've had in a while!!!
The portion was so huge I worried I wouldn't have room for fried rice, but I ended up leaving some agujjim behind just to make sure I could finish the fried rice haha. I left feeling very satisfied with the meal! Sin Mokpo Agujjim isn't far from Mokpo's Peace Square — stop by this Mokpo restaurant and go home with a full stomach~~
