Oxtail soup restaurant at Mokpo Peace Square: Mujinjang Kkori Gomtang
In short
Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang is a hanwoo beef oxtail soup restaurant at Peace Square in Mokpo, run by the third generation of the same family since 1976. The visit covered the hanwoo oxtail soup (27,000 won) and the hanwoo boiled beef soup (13,000 won), comparing a bone broth with oxtail meat, knee cartilage and thin noodles against the boneless boiled-beef bowl. Both arrive already seasoned and clean-tasting, and with the chive salad and diced radish kimchi they make a restorative meal worth the price.

I went to Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang, a long-running oxtail soup restaurant in Mokpo~~ The place we used to know was the one with the yellow sign near Hadang Bipa, but they recently relocated to Peace Square and did a full remodel haha. Now it's the white-signed oxtail soup place at Peace Square — Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang! 😉

What kind of restaurant is Mujinjang Kkori Gomtang in Mokpo?
Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang is an oxtail soup (꼬리곰탕) restaurant on Pyeonghwa-ro 43beon-gil at Mokpo's Peace Square, open 10:00–20:30. Mujinjang has been run by the same family across three generations since 1976, making it over 50 years old this year 😆 They only use certified green-label hanwoo (Korean native beef) that they butcher and prep themselves, so you can eat with confidence haha 👍🏻
Inside the restaurant and seating
The interior was clean and comfortable, as you'd expect from a newly relocated shop, with several 4-person tables set up haha.

I visited a bit past 2pm, an awkward time slot, and all the other customers had already finished eating and left, so we ate comfortably by ourselves 😆

Menu and prices at Mujinjang Kkori Gomtang
The menu at Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang lets you choose from single-serving oxtail soup, knee cartilage soup, hip bone soup, boiled beef soup, a sliced boiled beef plate that's great as a drinking snack, and various set menus. Soju and beer are ₩3,000 😳👍🏻 We wanted something warm so we ordered two soups haha.

They're also running a review event — participate and get a free drink.

Which side dishes come with the soup?
The basic side dishes at Mujinjang Sik-yuk Kkori Gomtang were bean sprouts, kimchi, diced radish kimchi (kkakdugi), chive salad, onion, chili peppers, and seasoning sauce — every single one of them was clean-tasting and delicious!

My personal pick here is the kkakdugi and chive salad haha. Perfectly ripened, crunchy kkakdugi and savory chive salad are great mixed into the soup with rice, or just eaten on their own — you know how it is!?

Hanwoo oxtail soup, 27,000 won: oxtail meat and knee cartilage
Out came the beef oxtail soup, perfect for a boost of energy~

The beef oxtail soup comes with oxtail, knee cartilage, and thin wheat noodles (somyeon) together, so you can pick at the tender oxtail meat and also enjoy the chewy cartilage 👍🏻 The broth has that milky-white bone marrow look, and the taste is clean yet rich with deep hanwoo flavor haha. It's already seasoned with salt and pepper, so you don't need to add anything more!

You dip the oxtail meat in the seasoning sauce that comes alongside — the meat was so tender it fell right off the bone with just a touch of the chopsticks 👍🏻

The meat was really delicious 😆
Hanwoo boiled beef soup, 13,000 won: the boneless, better-value bowl
I ordered the boiled beef soup because I wanted to eat boneless meat comfortably! The broth is the exact same bone marrow broth as the oxtail soup, just with boiled beef slices instead haha.

A great budget-friendly option for when the oxtail soup feels like too much 😍
The boiled beef was tender, and since it comes with noodles too, kids would probably eat it well if you're visiting on a family gathering!

Dip the boiled beef in the seasoning sauce, eat it with the noodles and well-ripened kimchi, then mix rice into the soup with side dishes on top, and finish it off by mixing in the chives or kkakdugi all at once haha.

I kept slurping it up and finished the whole thing 😆 As expected, it's a clean and delicious oxtail soup restaurant in Mokpo — the places with lots of regulars really do have a reason for it 👍🏻 Next time I'll come back for the hip bone soup, which they say they only sell ten bowls of a day!
