Hell gukbap set and makgeolli at Bangi-dong spot Boseung Hoegwan

I wanted a hearty meal near Seokchon Lake, so I headed to Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch with my boyfriend on a weekend lunch. It was just past 1pm and the place was already pretty packed, which told me this is genuinely a local favorite in Bangi-dong. Still, the restaurant itself is spacious with plenty of tables, so we could eat comfortably without feeling cramped. This time we ordered the hell gukbap set and the pork bone soup set — here's my honest review!

Where Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is, and what weekend lunch feels like

Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch sits right near Seokchon Lake, making it a great stop before or after a lakeside walk. The inside was bigger than I expected, with tables set at a comfortable distance. On our weekend lunch visit, customers kept streaming in the whole time.

Apparently waits can form during peak lunch hours, so if you're visiting on a weekend, I'd recommend putting your name down for waiting on Naver Place ahead of time!

Having seen it firsthand, I really do think it's easier to prepare ahead for peak hours here.

Boseung Hoegwan's menu: why the set beats the single bowl

Boseung has a variety of hearty gukbap menus, from sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) to pork bone soup and hell gukbap. Since there were two of us, we ordered one hell gukbap set and one pork bone soup set. Personally, while the single dishes are good too, I'd recommend going for the set when you're really hungry.

Ordering the set gets you the main gukbap along with sundae and pyeonyuk served together, and the portions were more generous than I expected.

Both the sundae and pyeonyuk were chewy and great to pick at before the gukbap arrived, and considering the whole spread, it felt like solid value.

How do the pork bone soup set and hell gukbap set taste?

I ordered the pork bone soup set. The bones were big and had a lot of meat still attached, so there was more to eat than I expected. The broth was rich and filling, great for mixing with rice, and picking the meat off the bone left me pretty full after just one bowl, haha.

My boyfriend wanted something spicier, so he ordered the hell gukbap set. The name alone sounds seriously fiery, but he said it suited his taste for spicy broth perfectly. If you usually prefer a sharper, more intense broth than regular sundaeguk, the hell gukbap could be a good pick.

Add in the sundae and pyeonyuk that came with the sets, and the two of us were completely full.

They had Jipyeong raw makgeolli, so my boyfriend and I ordered a bottle to share — perfect as a drink alongside the meal. There's something about pairing gukbap or hangover soup with soju or makgeolli that's just too good, even though drinking-free the next day is nice too, haha.

Having visited in person, Boseung Hoegwan Bangi Branch is a comfortable pick whenever you're craving hearty Korean comfort food like sundaeguk or pork bone soup. The space is spacious and pleasant, and ordering the set brings sundae and pyeonyuk along with it for a satisfyingly generous portion.

If you're like me and love pork bone soup, the generous meat portion makes it worth trying, and if you're craving a spicy broth, I'd recommend the hell gukbap too!

Being right by Seokchon Lake, it's also a great spot for a meal before or after a date or outing. That said, there can be waits during weekend lunch peak hours, so I'd recommend booking a spot on Naver Place ahead of time :)
