Late-night mungtigi set in Bangi-dong, Seoul: Hampyeong Yukhoe
In short
Hampyeong Yukhoe Bangi Main Branch is a yukhoe (raw beef) and mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) restaurant in the Bangi-dong food alley in Songpa, Seoul, a 9-minute walk from Jamsil Station. The writer came by for a second round after dinner and ordered the yukhoe mungtigi medium set, which arrived with thickly sliced raw beef, gamtae (fine green seaweed) and a complimentary beef soup with seonji (congealed blood). Everyone at the table was happy enough to call it a 100% return visit.

Following on from my last post, my friends and I came to Bangi-dong for round 2! It's Hampyeong Yukhoe✨ I love raw food in general, but I especially love yukhoe (raw beef)! Good yukhoe restaurants are surprisingly hard to find, and this place let us enjoy both yukhoe and mungtigi (thick-cut raw beef) deliciously!
Where Hampyeong Yukhoe Bangi Main Branch is and when it opens
Hampyeong Yukhoe Bangi Main Branch is at 22-19 Olympic-ro 32-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul, about a 9-minute walk from Jamsil Station, so subway access was great. When you're drinking, driving is a hassle, so it's nice to have a subway station nearby!👀🌟

Inside Hampyeong Yukhoe: atmosphere and seating
The Hampyeong Yukhoe Bangi Main Branch space is quite large, so it's a good spot for gatherings or work dinners. Being a popular place, there were a ton of customers! I was a little worried about waiting, but luckily there was a table for us✨🎶

What's on the menu: the yukhoe mungtigi medium set
Ordering was convenient with the tablet on the table. There was such a wide range — yukhoe, mungtigi, nakji tangtang-i (chopped raw octopus), fresh chadol-baegi (brisket), fresh buchaesal (flat iron)! They even had sea urchin and sweet shrimp dishes! We went with the yukhoe mungtigi (medium) set!🫶

For dipping sauces we got sesame oil salt sauce and mungtigi sauce, plus a simple side dish spread!

Free fresh gamtae with a Naver reservation
If you visit after booking through Naver Reservation, you get free fresh gamtae (dried seaweed) too — make sure to book and claim it! Yukhoe with gamtae is unbeatable..! They were also running an opening-run event giving out fresh chagol. I'll have to try that next time!🥹

How did the thick-cut yukhoe taste?
Finally, our order arrived. Both the yukhoe and mungtigi were sliced nice and thick, which I loved. The portion felt bigger than other places!

A raw egg came alongside it, and mixing it into the yukhoe was absolutely fantastic..👍

Since the yukhoe uses fresh raw meat, it had that distinctive fresh raw-meat taste and the pleasant tang you get when eating really good meat. The texture when chewing was also great😋 As I was eating it, a friend mentioned that butchering usually doesn't happen on weekends, so if a place sells mungtigi on Sundays too, you should be suspicious. I wondered if that was really true… but on the way out I noticed Hampyeong Yukhoe is closed on Sundays because they don't butcher that day! (Of course, whether this is universally true for all weekends isn't fully confirmed.) I was half-doubting my friend's claim, but seeing the sign on the door listing Sunday as their day off was a fun little discovery on the way out☺️

The best mungtigi yet: thick slices with real bite
Next up, the mungtigi!! Honestly, without much exaggeration, this was the best I've ever had. We came here after already eating at round 1 and being pretty full, but the meat was so thick that the texture really came through! It was chewy with real thickness, so the flavor came through even more clearly👏

Taking a bite of the yukhoe, there was a subtle hint of garlic aroma — so delicious as always! The kind of flavor that would make you truly happy with a full mouthful. Sweet, savory, and tangy all in perfect harmony — the best! It's a texture you could never get from frozen meat, which made it even better🤤

Wrapping the yukhoe in gamtae — how good could that be?! Being raw meat, it really was on another level🫶

I picked up a piece of mungtigi and just dipped it in sesame oil, and the savory flavor and freshness of the meat really hit me — I thought, it was worth coming here together today. I already want to come back again!

It's delicious with just sesame oil, but pairing it with the mungtigi sauce — a mix of garlic, chojang, and sesame oil — was even better!

The free beef soup with seonji (congealed blood)
A beef soup came out as a complimentary dish, but the moment it arrived my friends devoured it in an instant — and I forgot to photograph it! I've never forgotten to snap a photo before, but I guess the meat was so good today that it slipped my mind entirely!!🫢

What was unusual was that the soup had sundae (blood) in it! The broth was clean and refreshing. Paired with drinks, it's truly the best combination!✨

The best combination of the night at Hampyeong Yukhoe
I dipped mungtigi in sesame oil and wrapped it in gim (dried seaweed sheets) too, and it paired perfectly as always.

Wasabi and radish sprouts also came out, and eating them with mungtigi sauce was my personal favorite combination! Today I got to enjoy really delicious yukhoe and mungtigi again after a long while in the Bangi-dong food alley. My friends were all very satisfied, and so was I — a 100% chance of returning!🌟 If you're near Jamsil Station or in Bangi-dong, I'm confident you'll have a great time here with good company over drinks, or even without drinks!
