Stream-view ramen for two at Menji, a Hanam Misa restaurant

In short

Menji Hanam Misa Branch is a handmade-noodle Japanese ramen restaurant on Misagangbyeon-buk-ro in Hanam, Gyeonggi. Visiting on a rainy afternoon around 2pm, the writer ordered the handmade ramen with mini pork loin tonkatsu set and the spicy tori paitan ramen, sitting side by side at a window seat overlooking Mangwolcheon stream. The rich tori paitan chicken broth, whole wheat fresh noodles, and above-side-dish-level tonkatsu all impressed.

On a gloomy, rainy afternoon I was craving hot, rich Japanese ramen, so I headed to Menji Hanam Misa Branch. They make fresh noodles every day and simmer a deep broth, so I was excited going in haha

Location and parking at Menji Hanam Misa Branch

Menji Hanam Misa Branch is near spot 10 of Mangwolcheon Misa Riverside Park. The closest station is Misa Station, but it's a bit far to walk, so I'd recommend driving.

There are parking spots right in front of the building, but they're reserved first for residents living upstairs, so they recommend using nearby Hyerim Church or a paid lot in the area. Menji shares the first floor with Ezwhite Bread, but there's just one entrance, so you just walk in.

Right after entering, Menji is straight ahead :)

I was so surprised the moment I stepped in, the view was amazing hahaha. The greenery of Mangwolcheon seemed to spill right into the restaurant.

It felt like being at an actual ramen shop in Japan, with the bar table and regular seats arranged in nice harmony — comfortable whether you're dining solo or with friends, a date, or family. We visited around 2pm and there were still other people coming in to eat at that hour haha

Menu and prices

Menji menu board featuring tori paitan ramen

Menji's main menu item is the tori paitan ramen, made by simmering chicken deeply for a clean, gamey-free yet deeply umami broth. It's ₩11,000, so it's an easy, low-pressure lunch option! They also have handmade pork loin tonkatsu and a ramen-and-tonkatsu set, so order the set if you want a heartier meal.

I just took a photo of the whole kiosk menu lol. There's a pretty wide range of sides too — mini yakitori don, mini pork loin tonkatsu, chicken karaage, mini mentaiko rice, and more!

The tonkatsu is made using only fresh Korean pork loin, following the traditional Japanese method. There was also a guide to eating chicken broth ramen the tasty way, which I followed along with hahaha

Ajihen sauces and the self-serve bar

Homemade ajihen chili oil and ajihen pepper let you switch up the flavor as you eat! Even the bowl had a thoughtful note telling you to use it from the bottom up, which made me happy haha. Little touches like this seem to add to the restaurant's charm. There was even a hair tie ready to go, for +1 attack power :)

Bowl of Japanese-style pickled mustard greens, takanazuke

There was also takanazuke, Japanese-style pickled mustard greens and radish tossed in sesame oil — not too salty, seasoned just right, and it paired nicely with the ramen and tonkatsu.

What we ordered

Ramen set laid out on the window-side table

We ordered the handmade ramen with mini pork loin tonkatsu set and the spicy tori paitan ramen!

Tori paitan ramen topped with char siu and chicken breast

First, the tori paitan ramen! Wow, the broth was unbelievably rich — such a delicious ramen! The noodles had great chew too, and with the pork shoulder char siu and chicken breast topping, it was really filling.

Crispy fried mini pork loin tonkatsu

The mini pork loin tonkatsu was completely crispy outside and juicy inside — way beyond side-dish quality, honestly excellent!

Set meal served with kkakdugi and takoyaki

The kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi) was spicy with a hint of sweetness, which actually went really well with the ramen. Having one takoyaki as a palate cleanser was so nice :)

Mini rice bowl with chicken broth poured over it

Adding 2-3 spoonfuls of the chicken broth to the mini rice made it almost like a risotto, and the rice itself had a nice sheen — clearly good quality rice, and delicious :)

The spicy tori paitan ramen

And then the spicy tori paitan ramen, which I ordered because I was craving something spicy! There were so many cheongyang chili peppers in it that I removed about half before eating haha. I'm weak to spice but I can't give up spicy food~

The heavy, sharp, rich chicken broth paired with the handmade whole wheat fresh noodles was great — the noodles got nuttier the more you chewed.

There was so much chicken breast topping, it was an unexpected protein boost hahaha. Even thinking about it now, it was so good.

A walk along Mangwolcheon after the meal

The view we had while eating :) It was so nice that we ended up sitting side by side facing it lol

After the meal we took a leisurely walk toward Mangwolcheon. You can see Menji right there haha

Menji Hanam Misa Branch puts real care into every bowl — the chewy texture and deep umami of the tori paitan chicken broth with handmade fresh noodles, plus melt-in-your-mouth sous vide char siu. If you're looking for a proper Japanese ramen restaurant in Hanam Misa, or want a hearty tonkatsu set, I'd recommend visiting without hesitation :)
