My husband and I were debating what to have for dinner, and suddenly craved some good old healthy grilled fish! Grilling it at home means the smell lingers and the cleanup is a hassle, so we always end up putting it off — eating out is just so much more convenient haha.

Where is Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Handaeap Station Branch, and when is it open?
This Handaeap Station fish grill restaurant is located at 1, Songho 1-gil, Sangnok-gu, Ansan-si, 1st floor, and is open daily from 10:30 to 21:30. The exterior was really clean-looking. Since it's a newly opened place, its neat, fresh appearance caught my eye even from a distance, and I felt good before even stepping inside!

Inside the restaurant: spacious tables and a solo-dining bar table
Walking inside, the interior was really spacious and bright!

The tables were spaced out generously too, so we could talk comfortably over the meal without worrying about the people next to us.

There's also a bar table seat for solo diners, so eating alone here would feel totally comfortable. Eating while looking out the window would probably make the food taste even better haha.

Peeking toward the kitchen, I spotted a huge wood-fired oven standing there — this must be where the fish gets grilled! Just imagining the fish sizzling in that heat made my mouth water already!
Grilled mackerel vs. grilled Spanish mackerel set meal: which fish wins?
We ordered one grilled mackerel set meal and one grilled Spanish mackerel set meal at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang! While waiting, we checked out the self-serve bar, and the side dishes were laid out so neatly that it gave us confidence in the place haha.

After a short wait, today's main dishes finally arrived!! A big tray came out with fish, seaweed soup (miyeokguk), and hotpot rice — it passed the visual test right away!

The mackerel's skin was grilled to a nice golden brown over the wood fire. The Spanish mackerel was also huge — plenty for my husband and me to share without feeling short at all!

When I pulled off a big chunk with my chopsticks, the flesh was so pale and thick! Grilled over the wood fire, the outside was crispy while the inside stayed moist — my mouth was full of fish and pure happiness!!😋

Not a hint of fishy smell, just savory flavor with that signature umami — it was basically a rice thief haha.

Dabbing a little wasabi on top and dipping it in soy sauce gave it a wonderfully clean finish!

The Spanish mackerel's flesh was so tender it practically melted in your mouth, while the mackerel had a chewier texture with a strong, rich savory flavor — each had its own clear charm.

The fish was so thick that even piling it generously on top of the rice, we never ran short until the very last bite!
Side dishes and how to use the self-serve wrap veggie bar
At Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang, all the basic side dishes were perfectly seasoned, and you can grab extra side dishes or wrap vegetables yourself from the self-serve bar. The doenjang (soybean paste) and wasabi came out beautifully arranged in small dishes, which made us feel well taken care of haha.

Put rice and fish on a lettuce leaf, dab on some doenjang, and you've got a perfect healthy wrap!

It was great being able to casually grab more side dishes or wrap vegetables from the self-serve bar whenever we needed. Being able to enjoy fresh vegetables freely without feeling self-conscious seems like a big advantage of this place!

Who should eat at this Ansan grilled fish restaurant?
Overall, the food at this Handaeap Station fish grill restaurant was clean-tasting and the space was spotless, so we left satisfied! That said, it might get busy during weekend meal times, so I'd recommend visiting with some time to spare. It's also a great spot to bring your parents to, and perfect for whenever you're craving a healthy home-style meal haha.
