Yongin kalguksu restaurant near Dongcheon Botanical Garden: Yun Ujae
In short
Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu Gogidong Branch is a shabu-kalguksu (hot pot with knife-cut noodles) restaurant that makes its own noodles, on Gogi-ro near Dongcheon-dong in Suji, Yongin, Gyeonggi. On a weekend lunch before a trip to Dongcheon Natural Botanical Garden with a child, the writer ordered the white broth for two at 11,500 won per person and seafood pajeon (savory pancake) at 16,000 won, a set that came with flat kalguksu, regular kalguksu and fried rice at the end. For two adults and one child the pajeon made it too much food, so Yun Ujae is best ordered this way by groups of three or more.

On a nice autumn day, I went out to Suji with my kid. I was planning to stop by Dongcheon Natural Botanical Garden, so I was looking for good restaurants near Dongcheon-dong, and Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu caught my eye!! After actually visiting, I understood why it's so popular — affordable prices, generous portions, and above all, delicious. Let's start the review 💛
Where is Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, and what are its hours?

Where do you park at Yun Ujae?
Parking is available in front of Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu. When I arrived, the lot was full — as expected of a popular Dongcheon-dong restaurant — but I got lucky and a spot opened up right in front. If the lot is full, signs direct you to park across the street or along the roadside.

Since Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu makes its own noodles, there were sacks of flour stacked in front of the restaurant.

How long is the weekend lunch wait?
When I visited, it was weekend lunch time so there was a bit of a wait, but there was a separate waiting area, so I could wait comfortably.

While waiting, I picked out the menu. Since I was visiting with my kid, I ordered two servings of the white one (white broth)! And I also ordered the pajeon (savory pancake) too.

Inside Yun Ujae: the dining room and the noodle-making room
The inside of Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu is bright and clean, so a lot of young families come here.

Inside, there was even a noodle-making room where you can see the noodles being made by hand.

Sitting at the table, I checked the guide on how to eat it deliciously. Since the method and timing were written out, it wasn't hard to make it well! Check the sauce ratio and boiling time.

White broth shabu-kalguksu for two at 11,500 won per person
Finally, the shabu-kalguksu arrived!! 🩵 The broth with mushrooms and minari (water dropwort) came with meat, kalguksu noodles, and fried rice. Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu lets you choose between red and white broth, and since I was eating with my kid, I chose white!

₩11,500 per person — isn't that amazing value?! The portion was huge, and I was so surprised it was all in the ten-thousand-won range.

The beef was also sliced thin, and it was really tender, not chewy at all!!

It boils away nicely, bubbling along.

Flat noodles vs regular noodles, timed with a 5-minute hourglass
The noodles at Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu come in two kinds — flat kalguksu and regular kalguksu — so you can enjoy two different textures.

A staff member came over and laid the flat kalguksu on top for us!

As instructed, I turned over the 5-minute hourglass and waited for the noodles to cook.

Since the noodles are made fresh in-house, they had a really chewy texture. The flat kalguksu had a new slurping feel, so I got to enjoy the texture.

Seafood pajeon at 16,000 won: order it with three or more adults
It felt like something was missing with just the kalguksu, so I also ordered the seafood pajeon (savory seafood pancake) — priced at ₩16,000. It was packed with hearty seafood and so crispy that it was really delicious!!! This one is a total must-order 👍 However, since two adults and one child ordered two servings of kalguksu plus one pajeon, the portion was too much and we had leftovers, which was a bit of a shame. I really recommend ordering it when there are 3 or more adults.

The broth, deeply infused with vegetables, exploded with savory flavor, and adding the last bit of kalguksu noodles into it was pure bliss :) I could really see why it's famous as a top restaurant in Dongcheon-dong.

Finishing with fried rice: drain off as much broth as you can
You can't skip the finishing fried rice — the K-dessert! Drain out the broth well, then fry the rice. Pour out as much of the broth as possible before frying!! We had too much broth left, so ours turned out a bit soupy..

Yun Ujae Shabu Kalguksu, where we stopped for lunch before heading to Dongcheon Natural Botanical Garden! The flavor was clean, and my kid ate the meat and rice well, so it's a place I'd love to stop by again whenever I have a reason to visit Suji.
