Kid-friendly Italian restaurant in Ansan with a terrace: That Man's

I visited That Man's Italian Restaurant, an Italian restaurant in Ansan's Jungang-dong that has been officially designated one of Ansan's recommended restaurants by Ansan City. Seats, private room and table spacing with a child

That Man's Italian Restaurant is an Italian restaurant offering everything from pasta and risotto to steak and full course meals. I especially liked how wide the table spacing was, letting you have private conversations.

Beyond the spacious tables, there's also a private room, making it a great fit for a formal family meeting or for hosting guests.

Since we visited with our child, they swapped in child-friendly dishware for us. Kids can easily drop and break regular dishware, so having it switched out let us eat with peace of mind.

That Man's Italian Restaurant clearly puts a lot of thought into details like the water glasses too. Even something as small as a well-chosen water glass helps set a nice mood for the meal. It's a restaurant suited not just for family meals but also dates, blind dates, and anniversaries.

What caught my eye most was the course menu. It seems like a great option to enjoy on a special occasion.

What we ordered and the September postcard event

We ordered the lamb chop steak (medium rare), squid ink risotto, ricotta cheese salad, an egg tart, and Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

Also worth noting: throughout September, the restaurant is giving out postcards hand-written by a calligraphy artist as a gift.

Bread before the meal and the ricotta cheese salad

First, the pre-meal bread arrived. It comes out one per guest, crisp on the outside and soft and moist inside. Dipping the warm bread in the balsamic vinegar and olive oil sauce got me even more curious about the main dishes.

Next came the ricotta cheese salad. It's nice to fill up a little with salad before the main course. I'm not usually a huge salad person, but I genuinely enjoyed the ricotta salad here at That Man's Italian Restaurant. The special sauce gave it a flavor you can't get elsewhere. I was especially struck by the blueberries mixed in.

It genuinely suited my taste so well that I scraped the plate clean without leaving a bite.

Squid ink risotto with a whole squid

The second dish out was the squid ink risotto. Having a whole squid in it was striking. I took a bite of the risotto along with the pickles served on the side. The seasoning was spot-on, and it was delicious even on its own. Cutting up the whole squid and eating it with the risotto, the plump squid and the risotto matched incredibly well. The squid was so good that our kid ate half of it alone.

Australian French rack lamb chop steak

While we were happily working through the squid ink risotto, the main dish — the lamb chop steak — arrived. The lamb chop steak uses Australian French rack, which I think is why it was so tender and had almost no gamey smell. My wife usually struggles to eat lamb, but she had no trouble with the lamb here at That Man's Italian Restaurant. Our kid loved it so much they picked up a whole shoulder rack and tore into it solo. On top of that, several different sauces were provided, letting us enjoy the same lamb chops in a variety of ways.

We scraped this plate clean too, without leaving anything behind.

Häagen-Dazs egg tart

After cleaning our plates, the Häagen-Dazs egg tart arrived. It was so good that I only managed one bite before my wife and kid finished the rest between the two of them. Even my wife ended up having the egg tart taken from her by our kid. It was the first time our child had ever had an egg tart, and they asked me what kind of food this even was. When I told them it was called egg tart, they repeated it a few times, clearly trying to remember what it was.

After eating, we went to check out the terrace. Being able to look out at the terrace while you eat gives you the feeling of having traveled somewhere far away. There aren't many places right in the middle of a city where you can dine while looking out at such a green terrace. I think this might be That Man's Italian Restaurant's single best feature. The owner clearly put a lot of effort into decorating it, and our kid absolutely loved it — loved it so much that they whined about not wanting to leave.

It's been officially designated one of Ansan's recommended restaurants by Ansan City, and with its terrace and generously spaced tables, it's a space where you can eat privately. On top of that, there's a private room too, making it suitable for formal family meetings.

We ordered the lamb chop steak, ricotta salad, squid ink risotto, and Häagen-Dazs egg tart.

The ricotta cheese salad that came out first used a sauce you won't find just anywhere. It's made with green grape and blueberry dressing, and it was so good we scraped the plate clean without leaving a single bite.

The lamb chop steak, using Australian shoulder rack, was remarkably fresh and tender. My wife normally can't handle lamb because of the smell, but she ate the lamb chops here without any trouble. Our kid liked it so much they picked up the bone and gnawed on it.

And the squid ink risotto stood out for having a whole squid in it. Taking a bite of the well-seasoned risotto together with the squid was just perfect.
