Oi Samgyetang, a family stop in Sang-dong, Bucheon
There are a few great samgyetang places in Bucheon. Oi Samgyetang is one I visit often, too, and I recently went with my in-laws. It is a longtime local favorite—the kind of flavor everyone in Bucheon knows.
When you are treating elders to a meal, when the kids catch a cold, or when you feel your energy running low, nothing quite compares with samgyetang (Korean whole chicken soup). Let me introduce Oi Samgyetang, a longstanding samgyetang favorite in Sang-dong, Bucheon.
Oi Samgyetang

A spacious dining hall, private rooms, and refillable side dishes
The dining hall is at the center, with room-style seating all around it. Both the hall and the many private rooms are spacious, so it works for any kind of gathering.

The basic spread includes kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi), pickled onion and cucumber, seasoned pickled radish, cucumber, and chili peppers. There is a reason this place has been loved for so long—the side dishes themselves are delicious.

It is convenient to pick up extra side dishes at the self-serve refill bar. I love all the kkakdugi and pickles here, so I eat my samgyetang with just the side dishes, without adding salt. The soup is already seasoned, and since I eat plenty of sides, leaving it unseasoned suits my taste perfectly.

Bubbling herbal mung bean samgyetang and glutinous-rice porridge
The samgyetang arrives bubbling in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot). Even the golden-yellow color of the broth tells you how rich it will be before you take a sip.

The chicken is not small; it is substantial, tender, and free of any unpleasant smell. It has been simmered so thoroughly that the meat slips right off the bone with just chopsticks. Even the breast is moist and goes down softly.

Soft yet pleasantly chewy—that is the charm of properly cooked samgyetang.

It is packed with mung beans, making the broth thick and rich. It really makes you feel like you are getting healthier.

Because this is herbal mung bean samgyetang, once you fish out and finish all the chicken, this glutinous-rice mung bean porridge is waiting underneath. The thickened porridge is easy to spoon up. Add kkakdugi, dip in cucumber now and then—this is what a proper restorative meal is! 👍

High chairs, parking, and a waiting lounge
Aprons and high chairs are available.

You can park on basement levels 1 and 2.

This is a popular place with lots of waiting, so there is a customer lounge. It was locked today because it was a weekday, though. I suppose it opens on weekends or days with many people waiting.
The chicken, duck, mung beans, and kimchi are all domestically sourced. The restaurant also states that it makes its kimchi and all side dishes in-house.

And, if you ask, you can receive a tasting serving of ginseng liquor. There is an additional charge from the second bottle onward. I recommend Oi Samgyetang in Sang-dong, Bucheon, for anyone looking for a truly restorative meal in Bucheon or deciding on a place for a family meal.
