Kimchi jjigae across from Dongtan Central Park

Last Saturday, I was wondering what to have for lunch when a proper Korean meal suddenly sounded so good, so kimchi jjigae it was!! Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal is over by Gaenari Park, across from Central Park in Dongtan. There is parking right in front, and after eating, it is easy to head straight to Central Park for a walk—just perfect for a weekend meal out :)

The big “great kimchi jjigae restaurant” sign out front made me think the kimchi jjigae had to be good! There were already lots of cars parked in front before we even went in, so I was excited—it felt like a real local favorite haha.

Besides kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew), they have plenty of options, including pork-and-kimchi braise, duruchigi (spicy pork and vegetable stir-fry), samgyeopsal (pork belly), kimchi-mal-i guksu (cold noodles in kimchi broth), and mul naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles). The kimchi-mal-i guksu and bulgogi combo shown in the picture also sounds so good..💗

A roomy dining room and a varied Korean menu
Maybe that is why it was full of customers haha. The dining room is quite spacious, and it is close to Samsung Electronics, so I thought it would work well for company dinners too~! Delivery drivers kept coming in as well, so it seems lots of people order delivery too?!

We debated between the kimchi jjigae and kimchi-jjim (braised kimchi) set, then ordered the kimchi jjigae set. It includes kimchi jjigae for two and your choice of rolled omelet, bulgogi, or spicy stir-fried pork. It was ₩26,000 for two!!

After ordering, they brought out dried shredded radish, braised black beans, and roasted seaweed flakes as the basic side dishes, and you can refill them yourself.

The hot rolled omelet came first
The rolled omelet came out before the kimchi jjigae 🥚 It was freshly cooked and seriously hot, but seriously delicious! The seasoning was spot-on, with lots of savory depth that made me think they used stock.

It was a proper rolled omelet packed full of egg, so it must use plenty of eggs—and it is only ₩7,000 on its own. You really should try it haha. Other places usually charge around ₩10,000–₩15,000, but the price here was so good it almost felt like a service item.

A generous kimchi jjigae where you cut up the pork as it cooks
While you are eating the rolled omelet, the kimchi jjigae arrives bubbling away. Kimchi jjigae gets better the longer it cooks, so it became even tastier as we kept it simmering haha. You just cut up the pork, let it cook another 3–4 minutes, and eat.
The mister sitting across from me: “You have to eat it before the rolled omelet gets cold!” Hahaha. By the way, the portion was honestly so big that I think three or four people could share just one.

This was meant for two, but the kimchi jjigae portion was huge..! It was loaded with kimchi, tofu, and pork. When it first arrived, there was so much that I wondered, wow... can we finish this? 😂 Maybe that is why there seemed to be so many male customers too.

The pork comes in big pieces like this, so you can cut it into easy-to-eat bites! It seemed to be pork neck, with no odor at all, and it was so tender that even I, someone who does not usually love meat in stew, enjoyed it 👍 I found out they use Grade 1 Korean pork! With meat that good, of course it tastes great.

There was really lots of meat, so it is great for getting some protein in!! The stew itself was neither spicy nor salty, with a flavor anyone can comfortably enjoy. Unless they are very young, kids can eat it too, so I would recommend it for a family meal out as well!
