Korean restaurant in Ansan for toddler family dinners: Todamok

My husband happened to have the day off too, so as soon as I got off work, the three of us—including our little one—went out for dinner. Today’s dining spot was Todamok (토담옥) in Seonbu-dong, Ansan.

I’m a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) person, while my husband is more into bossam (boiled pork served with wraps), and the menu had both—so there was nothing else to deliberate over 😄 The best menu combination!

On the way from home to Todamok, the weather was so lovely! Once the destination came into view, I was just happy to see it and kept pressing the shutter 😂

A restaurant with rabbits for a 23-month-old

There was one more reason I chose Todamok that day, beyond the food: rabbits that my 23-month-old would probably love! I looked it up before we went and found that there was an animal-farm-like area outside the restaurant where you could see rabbits and small animals. Ah, I thought, this would be perfect for redirecting my child’s attention and keeping them happy if they got bored during the meal!

It was my first time at Todamok, and isn’t the exterior lovely? It is a standalone building with a huge parking lot, so there was absolutely no inconvenience for a family visit!

Kalguksu and bossam for a couple with different tastes

Once seated, we looked over the menu. I like kalguksu and my husband likes bossam, and since they had both, we ordered without hesitation. When you visit with several people, it is convenient to have a place where everyone can choose what they want rather than somewhere with just one kind of dish.

Self-service side dishes and free rice

At Todamok, you help yourself to side dishes from the self-service bar. I liked that it was kept neat and tidy when I visited. When you are eating with a child, there are times when you need a little rice to feed them or want an extra serving, so having rice at the self-service bar seemed convenient for family visitors!

There was something at the self-service bar that surprised me a little: meat dumplings and kimchi dumplings!

The food we ordered was enough, so we only brought one of each to taste, haha. I could instantly picture ordering one kalguksu and having it with a bowl of rice and dumplings. Oh, I thought this place must get lots of customers at lunchtime~ 🙂

What was disappointing about the kalguksu and bossam

And then there was the kalguksu I had been looking forward to most. I usually love kalguksu, so I ordered it as soon as I spotted it on the menu. I did wish it had been a little hotter.

Of course, please keep in mind that this is my personal review of the food condition on the day I visited! Both the bossam and kalguksu felt lukewarm to me, so I was disappointed because they would have been tastier if they had been hotter 🥺

For a 23-month-old, the rabbits right in front of them are much more exciting than Mom and Dad eating something delicious, you know 😂 My child would watch the rabbits during the meal, then come back and eat again. Thanks to that, they were able to pass the time without getting bored.

Easy car parking, a neatly maintained self-service bar, and even free bowls of rice, meat dumplings, and kimchi dumplings.
