Today I'm bringing you a review of Wonangmyeongga, a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon, that my husband and I visited on a weekday evening!

We had a hearty meal with the special-cut assortment and a bottle of soju. I'd always known this place as a spot for company dinners or group gatherings, so it felt special to finally visit just the two of us haha.
Inside Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch: pick your own hanwoo cuts
The moment we walked into Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch, it felt like a really large, clean hanwoo restaurant. It's set up as a butcher-shop-style place where you pick the meat yourself, so we could check the freshness with our own eyes before sitting down.
Looking at the color and marbling of the meat in the display case got me excited before it even hit the grill. The staff kept refilling our side dishes without us even asking, which made the meal even more pleasant.
Side dishes with beef sashimi and cheonyeop included
The basic side dishes came out really generously, and I was surprised to see beef sashimi and cheonyeop (beef tripe), which aren't things you get to try every day.
My husband is used to eating cheonyeop, but it was my first time, so it felt pretty unfamiliar. The texture was crunchy and interesting, but whether I'll try it again next time? Haha, we'll see.
Here are the other basic side dishes that came with the meal!

Special-cut hanwoo assortment, 128,030 won — enough for two?

What we ordered that day was the special-cut assortment for 128,030 won, the table setting fee for two, and a bottle of soju.

The special-cut assortment came with a variety of cuts spread evenly across the plate, so we never got tired of eating.
Each cut had a slightly different texture, which made it fun to grill and eat them in turns.
Fattier cuts and leaner cuts were mixed in just the right proportion, so we kept eating without feeling sick of it.
The portion was plenty for two people, and even though we're not big eaters, we managed to finish it all and felt full.
What's on the self-serve bar? Beef, mushrooms and pineapple
The self-serve bar at Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch had beef, mushrooms, pineapple, and even cherry tomatoes, so we grilled a bit of everything.

Grilling mushrooms and pineapple together cut through the greasiness and added a bit of sweetness, so we kept reaching for more.

There were also lettuce wraps ready to go, so we couldn't miss out on wrapping a piece of meat and enjoying that too.

Finishing with rice, stew and soy-marinated crab
After finishing the meat, we needed a bit of carbs too, so we ordered a bowl of rice and paired it with seasoned crab and stew.
The stew broth was spicy yet deep in flavor, so I ended up finishing the whole bowl of rice.

The seasoned crab wasn't too salty and had great savory flavor, so it went down easily over rice.
Private rooms and seating at Wonangmyeongga
There were private rooms toward the back of the restaurant and also on the second floor, and with the high ceilings, the space felt open. Even though it's a hanwoo restaurant, it had enough atmosphere that taking photos was pretty good too.
With the lighting on in the evening, the whole restaurant had a soft, atmospheric glow, making it easy to get nice photos at any seat. The seating was divided by partitions, so we could eat comfortably without worrying about the next table.
We sat by the window, so we could see the view outside and the natural light was good, which made for nice photos.
Season by season at Wonangmyeongga
In this cooling weather, hot stew paired with meat was a perfect combination. The restaurant is really well ventilated, so we didn't have to worry about smelling like meat and could just walk right out in the clothes we came in.
As the weather turns pleasant in autumn, it seems like a great time to visit as part of an evening walk. In summer, finishing with a cool bowl of naengmyeon (cold noodles) might be nice too — it seemed like a place you could enjoy differently depending on the season.
Hours, location and parking in Dunsan-dong
Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch is open daily from 11:00 to 22:30, with a weekday break time from 14:30 to 17:00 and a weekend break time from 15:00 to 16:30. The address is 41 Dunsanseo-ro, Seo-gu, Daejeon, South Korea, and it's close to Exit 2 of City Hall Station on Daejeon Subway Line 1.
There's a spacious dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant, so we didn't have to worry about parking at all. Next time, we're thinking of booking a room for a family gathering.
Where to go nearby after dinner
Wonangmyeongga is close to City Hall and Galleria Timeworld, so it's a great spot to combine with some shopping. After the meal, taking a walk around City Hall was a nice way to help digestion and spend some relaxed time.
Walking and chatting in nice weather made it the perfect route for us as a couple. We just had our meal and headed straight home that day, but next time we'd like to stop by a nearby café too.
Final thoughts on Wonangmyeongga Dunsan City Hall Branch

If you're looking for a great hanwoo restaurant in Dunsan-dong, Daejeon, I'd like to recommend Wonangmyeongga.

It's fun to pick and choose between different cuts, and the side dishes and self-serve bar were solid, so we left satisfied haha. They even have dessert candies ready at the register when you pay.

And there was omija (schisandra berry) tea and plum tea on the way out. Since we overate, we had a cup of plum tea haha.
Above all, the parking space was so spacious that it was really convenient to drive there, so I'd recommend it as a spot for group gatherings!

Next time, I'd like to try the ribeye or one of the rice dishes.
