Evening chili jjajang and whole shrimp, Haeundae Chinese: Bueokgan

A Chinese restaurant with great atmosphere near Dalmaji-gil in Haeundae — my review of Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch!

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch, and where do you park?

It's in the same building as Bueokgan Haeundae, the Western restaurant~ The 1st floor is Bueokgan Chinese, and if you take the elevator up to the 2nd floor you get Bueokgan, so just head wherever you want! The parking lot entrance is at the back of the building, FYI.

I'd already been to Bueokgan Haeundae, the Western restaurant, so this time I tried Bueokgan Chinese — and the vibe was on point from the entrance!

A secret-passage hallway and European-style interior

At Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch, once the door opens there's another hallway to pass through, so it feels like walking down a secret passage haha! As soon as you enter, a huge counter-slash-kitchen appears — it really has that high-class restaurant feel~

Lots of large China-themed framed pictures hang on the walls, giving it an exotic feel — exactly like it says on Naver Place, a European-style-sensibility Chinese restaurant, that description is spot on!

Further inside, the lighting is even cozier and softer, so it's the perfect atmosphere for an evening dinner...

What's on the menu at Bueokgan Chinese?

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch has a much more varied menu than a typical Chinese restaurant, with dishes you don't often see elsewhere, like mala coriander jjamppong and black vinegar tenderloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork)!

What two people ordered: chili jjajang, seafood jjamppong, kkanpung shrimp

Such a hearty spread~ The portions are pretty generous too, so two mains plus one dish is enough to leave two people stuffed

Chili jjajang piled high with chopped peppers

They unusually had a chili jjajang, so I gave it a try, and it came topped with a huge pile of chili peppers, whoa! If you're the type who always dumps a ton of chili flakes on your jjajangmyeon (black bean noodles), you'll definitely love this! Eating it with the chili is a bit spicy, but the noodles have a subtle chili aroma soaked in, so it's got a nice kick~

Seafood jjamppong with a deep, clean broth

The seafood jjamppong... the broth is incredibly refreshing. Bueokgan used to have a location in the basement of Centum Shinsegae for a while, and I had it there and loved the jjamppong, which is part of why I came back — the broth has a really deep flavor!

Plump, springy kkanpung shrimp

And the kkanpung shrimp I ordered as an extra dish. Wow, this place is seriously a shrimp specialist...! The shrimp are on another level of plump, so I highly recommend trying a shrimp dish here.

Even the shrimp in the jjamppong broth are insanely springy. I got so moved by the shrimp that I quickly snapped a photo of it haha

Why dinner is the best time to visit Bueokgan Chinese

Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae Branch would probably be pretty during the day too, but going in the evening, the soft lighting and private feel were so good that I'd definitely recommend an evening visit — and the food tastes genuinely upscale, so it's a great place to treat someone!

Bueokgan has several branches around Haeundae, and it's even better that the Chinese branch alone has two locations, Haeundae and Marine City! Strongly recommend it as a top Chinese restaurant in Haeundae.
