Seongsan tendon restaurant in Jeju: bukkake cold udon at Seobiu Udon

We're a food-loving travel couple who each have different tastes, try everything ourselves, and evaluate honestly to decide which places are worth a repeat visit.

Whenever we get the chance, we go hunting for good restaurants, and a few days ago we visited eastern Jeju's Seongsan area. It had been a long time since we'd been to Seopjikoji and Sinyang Seopji Beach, and we also stopped at two bakeries that Yuri from Girls' Generation visited on I Live Alone, coming away with our hands full of bread.

What kind of restaurant is Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu?

Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu is an udon and pork cutlet specialty restaurant at 74 Goseongojo-ro, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo, Jeju, in the neighborhood between Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji. At the time of our visit it had 2,114 Naver reviews with a 4.89 out of 5 rating. We'd heard there was a udon and pork cutlet spot near the bakery that locals loved, stopped by, and fell for the flavor.

We got there right after break time ended, so there weren't any other customers yet. But as we ate, more and more neighborhood elders came in for dinner.

What we ordered and what it cost: tendon, cold udon and the curry pork cutlet set

At Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu we ordered cold udon (bukkake udon) for ₩9,000, the curry pork cutlet set for ₩15,000, tempura rice bowl (tendon) for ₩11,000, and a cola for ₩2,000.

How was the tempura rice bowl (tendon)? Shrimp tempura and a whole king oyster mushroom

Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu's tempura rice bowl (tendon) is ₩11,000, and the crispy shrimp tempura was crisp outside, tender inside — a textbook example!!

The whole king oyster mushroom fried in one piece was light and savory with a nutty crust that made us smile.

How do you eat the cold bukkake udon at Seobiu Udon?

Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu's cold udon (bukkake udon) is ₩9,000. The sauce served alongside can be salty if poured all at once, so add it little by little to season to taste.

The cold udon noodles were chewy, bordering on springy.

They went so well with the salty-savory sauce that we kept reaching for more.

Curry pork cutlet set: how thick is the fresh Jeju pork loin?

Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu's curry pork cutlet set at ₩15,000 comes with a mini udon alongside the curry pork cutlet.

The mini udon broth in particular had such great umami, and the noodles stayed chewy to the last bite — we couldn't help saying it was delicious. If we come back, I think we'd try the tempura hot udon next time.

Wow~ can you see how thick that pork cutlet is?

Made with fresh Jeju pork loin, it was light in flavor, and the curry sauce had just the right amount of spice and umami — good enough that we scraped it clean to the bottom of the plate.

Final verdict and what to see near Seongsan afterwards

If you're planning to visit the Seongsan area of Jeju, we'd recommend visiting Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji, stopping by the bakery Yuri from Girls' Generation visited (just a 3-minute walk away) to pick up some bread, and definitely making time for Seongsan Seobiu Udon Donkatsu, a local favorite in Seongsan.
