Siheung charcoal grill house with single-serving add-ons: Bulhyangjip

In short

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is a charcoal grilled meat restaurant at the top of the food village by Mulwang Reservoir in Siheung, Gyeonggi. The order was charcoal pajeon bulgogi (scallion-style marinated beef) for two with grandma's doenjang jjigae stew and bibim guksu (spicy cold noodles), then one added serving of charcoal gochujang bulgogi to compare the two marinades. The first order at Bulhyangjip must be two servings of the same dish, but extra orders can be a single serving, which made trying both flavors easy.

Hi, it's Ryeobeulli haha! Today I'm showing you Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch, a well-loved meat restaurant by Mulwang Reservoir, where you can taste charcoal-grilled meat with that deep smoky flavor. Let me show you right away what this Mulwang Reservoir spot is like!

Where is Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch, and is there parking?

If you head into the Mulwang Reservoir food village and keep going up a bit further, you'll arrive at Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch! There's a big parking lot behind the building, so parking was really easy haha.

Next to the restaurant there was a pile of used charcoal briquettes — it was nice to see charcoal again after a long time lol. My kid said it was the first time seeing so many briquettes at once! We crossed a charming stone bridge and headed into the restaurant!

Inside, the space is spacious and comfortable, and you can book group seating, a family room (floor seating), and even a dog-friendly terrace through Naver Reservations!

There were baby chairs and a sign for pets too. Pets are welcome at designated seats as long as you use a stroller or carrier bag haha.

Side dishes and the homemade self-serve bar at Bulhyangjip

Once you order at Bulhyangjip, the side dishes come out first — wrap greens, cabbage salad, radish pickle, kimchi, seasoned vegetables, bracken fern, and a house special sauce haha.

For extra side dishes, you can use the self-serve bar — these are handmade in-house and every single one was neat and delicious >.< I took a video of it too, so anyone planning to visit can check it out!

Next to the self-serve bar, I caught a staff member pre-grilling the bulgogi on the charcoal fire, so I snapped a photo haha.

Charcoal pajeon bulgogi for two: what it tastes like

Charcoal pajeon bulgogi, two servings (200g/person, ₩15,900 each). Pork bulgogi grilled over charcoal with sweet scallions, served up looking just like a pajeon (scallion pancake).

It really lives up to its name with that pajeon shape! The scallion shreds were golden brown and looked so appetizing haha. It comes fully cooked, but since they say the scallions taste even better the more they cook, we decided to grill it a little longer!

Grandma's doenjang jjigae stew and Bulhyangjip bibim guksu noodles

Grandma's doenjang jjigae stew (₩5,000) is made with traditional aged soybean paste. The stew had a rich, savory flavor — and interestingly, the tofu was soft sundubu-style, which really made it taste like something a grandmother from the countryside would make!

Bulhyangjip's bibim guksu noodles (₩9,000) are the signature dish — made with a vegetable stock fermented for 14 days, sweet, tangy, and spicy in an addictive way.

The bibim guksu had a good amount of broth, and the seasoning was so perfectly balanced! It was delicious — chewy noodles, tasty sauce, and a really generous portion. Highly recommend!

While the other dishes were coming out, the pajeon bulgogi had turned golden brown too. Dipping it into the house special sauce, it was sweet and delicious, and that charcoal smoke flavor was really alive in the meat! Wrapping it in fresh greens made it taste even better haha.

The combination of bibim guksu and bulgogi was great too, and mixing rice with the doenjang jjigae was also tasty~

Cola (₩2,000). Nice touch that they give you a cup of ice when you order a drink!

Adding one serving of charcoal gochujang bulgogi

Charcoal gochujang bulgogi (200g/person, ₩15,900) is pork bulgogi infused with deep charcoal flavor and coated in a sweet-and-spicy gochujang sauce. The first order has to be 2+ servings of the same menu item, but additional orders can be a single serving — so I ordered one serving of gochujang bulgogi too haha.

The gochujang bulgogi had a bit more spice added, making it even tastier eaten with rice! It also seemed like a great match for a drink >.< Both types were delicious — honestly hard to pick a winner!
