Mountain-view terrace booking at Bulhyangjip, a Siheung BBQ restaurant

In short

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is a charcoal-grilled meat restaurant near Mulwang Reservoir in Siheung, Gyeonggi. For a weekend lunch on the reserved mountain-view terrace, the order was two servings of charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi and two of charcoal gochujang bulgogi, plus one doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and two bowls of rice, eaten with lettuce wraps and the house sauce. The smoky charcoal flavor and the scallions worked well together, making Bulhyangjip an easy recommendation for charcoal-grilled meat in Siheung.

This was one of those happy weekend days. The weather was great, so I thought I'd go play at Mulwang Reservoir, and while looking for somewhere good to eat lunch, I found this place — grilled over charcoal, full of smoky flavor and great taste — so I made a reservation and went.

Where Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is, and when it opens

Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch is located at 46-2 Dongseo-ro 811beon-gil, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, 1st floor. It's open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00am to 8:30pm, with a break time from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, last order at 8:00pm, and closed every Monday.

Other notes: it's group-friendly, offers takeout, reservations, wifi, separate men's/women's restrooms, baby chairs, easy pay, parking, and pet-friendly seating. As I was almost there, I spotted a restaurant sign like this, so it was easy to find.

We drove there ourselves, and the parking lot was clearly marked with plenty of spots, so we had no trouble finding a spot.

Feeling excited, we walked up to the restaurant. Out front there was a CatchTable waitlist sign, but luckily we arrived early, so we got seated right away with no wait.

Main hall, group private room and mountain-view terrace seating

Inside Bulhyangjip Mulwang Lake Main Branch there's seating in the main hall, and I noticed a spacious private room area too. With a space like this, it looked great for company dinners, family gatherings, or group meetups.

There's also a mountain-view terrace, which was so lovely. Honestly the mountain-view terrace was what I really wanted, and I was thrilled they booked us there.

How to order at Bulhyangjip, and how to eat the scallion pancake bulgogi

On the table there were instructions on how to order — the first order has to be two servings of the same menu item, and the main dishes don't come with stew or rice, so if you want doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, rice, etc., you order those separately.

There were also tips for eating the pancake bulgogi deliciously. It said doenjang jjigae tastes great with rice, and bibim noodles are a special treat eaten together with the pancake bulgogi.

There were more tips on enjoying the pancake bulgogi too — it said to add garlic and cheongyang chili to their house special sauce, mix everything well once it's fully cooked so nothing burns, and it's extra delicious with a variety of wrap greens. We decided to follow all that advice.

What's on the Bulhyangjip menu

Once seated, we checked out the menu — there was the smoky charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi, gochujang bulgogi, and charcoal pre-grilled pork belly. As sides, they also sold bibim noodles, doenjang jjigae, steamed egg, water naengmyeon (cold noodle soup), bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles), and rice.

For drinks, there was a range of beer, soju, and makgeolli.

For non-alcoholic drinks, I saw Coca-Cola, Coca-Cola Zero, Chilsung Cider, and Fanta.

After debating what to eat, we ordered charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi (2 servings), charcoal gochujang bulgogi (2 servings), one doenjang jjigae, and two bowls of rice.

While chatting, they brought out the basic side dishes. If you want more, you can help yourself at the self-serve bar.

And soon the mains and sides all arrived — so generous, right? I took a video showing the whole spread up close, so check that out.

How was the charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi?

First, they brought out the charcoal scallion pancake bulgogi.

They just warmed it slightly on the grill.

I tried the meat by itself first — and wow, this was so good. The smoky charcoal flavor, the clean taste of the meat, and the scallions worked together so well. Truly a top meat restaurant in Siheung.

I also piled some on top of my rice.

Wrapping it in various leaves was fantastic too.

And adding chili and garlic into their house special sauce paired so well with it.

Doenjang jjigae and rice: the best pairing of the meal

In the middle of the meal, we also tried the doenjang jjigae.

The broth had really rich flavor.

It's delicious on its own, but piling meat on rice along with it was an amazing combo.

Next up was the gochujang bulgogi.

It came with scallions and meat, so I mixed it well.

I took a big bite of this too, and the gochujang flavor was a whole new thing — so delicious. The smoky charcoal flavor made it even better.

I ate this with rice too, and between wrapping it up in various leaves, we cleaned the whole thing up. If you're craving charcoal-grilled meat or looking for a great meat restaurant in Siheung, I'd recommend giving this place a try.
