Where is Ichigyu Wonju
🥩
Ichigyu Wonju, a gyukatsu spot in Wonju
Today's restaurant is Ichigyu, located in Musil-dong. Ichigyu Wonju is on the first floor of the Lotte Cinema building!!
If you park in the underground lot, you get 2 hours free — just tell staff your license plate when you pay and leave, and they'll register it!!

If you see this sign, you've arrived at Ichigyu haha

The vibe inside and eating solo
Gyukatsu is the main menu at Ichigyu, but they also serve a variety of other Japanese dishes like steak-don, hamburg omurice, cold soba, and Japanese curry.
The interior has a warm wood-tone feel, tidy and clean, spotless even!! The staff greeted us brightly the moment we walked in, which put me in a great mood haha. We visited around 6pm, and not long after we sat down the place was nearly full. Seems like a really popular restaurant! There were also a lot of solo diners — if you like eating alone, definitely give Ichigyu a try haha.

The menu board and drinks
Let's take a look at the menu haha. There are great-value set menus, plenty of à la carte options, side dishes, and drinks all fully stocked. They had Kirin draft beer too — watching the people next to us drink it, it looked really cold and delicious. We'll have to try the Kirin draft next time hahaha.
Set No. 1 for ₩42,000
Set No. 1 / Gyukatsu + gyukatsu (striploin) + drink (choice of cola/cider/zero) / Price: ₩42,000
We ordered Set No. 1. You get two gyukatsu plus a drink, and it's ₩3,000 cheaper too, which was nice! I'd recommend this great-value set if there are two of you.
✅ You can choose between cola and cider for the drink, and you can also switch to a zero-sugar version

There was a review event running too — give it a try haha. They said you get grilled cheese and thin-sliced mochi!!

As soon as we ordered, they brought out warm rice first. The rice is refillable too.
They lit the brazier for us as well. Blazing fire 🔥

We ordered zero cola, and it came in a nice cold cup of ice, so it was wonderfully chilled ><

Striploin gyukatsu, grilled in Isigny butter
The gyukatsu arrived with a crispy coating and fresh striploin beef
It came with a solid spread — cabbage salad, grilled cabbage, miso soup, and various sauces!

One look at the cross-section of the gyukatsu beef and you can tell it's really fresh meat 🥰 That bright red, delicious-looking cut haha.

That super famous butter, right? Isigny butter! 😙 They put the Isigny butter on the well-heated grill plate. (Let's get that butter coating going.)
And then on goes the gyukatsu!! Savory butter with beef... already drooling.
The sizzling sound... here's a video. Listen to that sizzling grill sound. It sounds delicious already... 💕

You can adjust the doneness to your taste, which is great — here's a nicely grilled piece of gyukatsu.

Which sauce combo worked best
(Sweet chili sauce, seasoned salt, wasabi, etc.) You dip it into a variety of sauces. There are so many options you never get tired of it haha. For me, salt with wasabi was the best combo~! What's your favorite sauce with gyukatsu? 👀

The striploin gyukatsu grilled in savory butter... the meat was so tender and the coating so crispy, we ate it up so happily haha ❤️
