Flounder and rockfish for two, self-serve kimchi pancake: Namdong raw
In short
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch is a raw fish and seafood restaurant near Guwol-dong Plaza in Namdong, Incheon. Visiting as a second-round spot, the writer ordered flounder + rockfish for two and bone spicy fish stew, plus corn salad, lettuce wraps, and self-fried kimchi pancake from the self-serve bar. It kept things lively while waiting for the sashimi, and worked well as a round-two drinking spot.

This time I visited Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch as part of a Superchart taste-testing campaign~ Turns out this place has a ton of branches?! You've probably heard of it before, so I'm hoping this review helps if there's one near you.. I went as a second-round spot and I'll show you how I wrecked some sashimi and spicy fish stew!

Where is Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch
Veteran General Fish Market Incheon City Hall Branch is located close to Guwol-dong Plaza (120 Guwolnam-ro, Namdong-gu, Incheon)

What was the vibe like inside
Walking in, there were quite a lot of tables, and the whole place had that comfortably tipsy, loud and lively atmosphere where the drinks just keep flowing

The menu lineup
The menu just doesn't end, right?? From raw sashimi to seafood to different kinds of stew, there were so many options to choose from

Flounder + Rockfish (for 2) / Bone Spicy Fish Stew

Basic side dishes plus grilled saury
Before the sashimi arrived, the basic side dishes were set out first, and the grilled saury I'd been debating whether to order also showed up 👍🏻

What's at the self-serve bar
You can use the self-serve bar here too, so you can grab extra side dishes or wraps yourself if you're running low. And my favorite, corn salad — the corn salad didn't disappoint, and I kept picking at it while waiting for the sashimi hahaha

Frying your own kimchi pancake
And on one side of the self-serve bar, you could actually fry your own kimchi pancake too. You scoop out as much batter as you want and fry it yourself, and frying up a kimchi pancake while waiting for the sashimi seemed like it'd be fun. Turns out there was a reason everyone seemed a little tipsy — with endless snacks like this being served, how can you not drink haha. Looking into it, I saw reviews from other Veteran General Fish Market branches where people also fried their own kimchi pancake at the self-serve bar, so it seems like this is a shared self-serve setup across the franchise (though the operating style and menu might vary by branch).

How did the flounder + rockfish for two taste?
Okay, the flounder and rockfish finally arrived. You know flounder, right? Firm, chewy, clean-biting, light white fish that's hard to dislike... practically impossible not to like. Rockfish is even more springy than flounder and has more umami. But since they're both white fish, I think they're the kind of sashimi you can eat cleanly without any oiliness or fishy smell 🤍 I honestly couldn't tell much of a texture difference between the rockfish and flounder while eating, but maybe because I've been eating raw shrimp sashimi and other varieties lately, I actually found myself craving this kind of basic sashimi that day. Both soy sauce and vinegar-chili sauce went well with it, and it was perfect for a second round!!! If you want more variety, check the menu and order something different hahaha eating just sashimi alone can feel a little lacking.

Finishing with bone spicy fish stew
So I also ordered the hot soup, bone spicy fish stew~ Bubbling away, it was hot~ refreshing~ with a spicy kick, plus the flavor drawn out from the fish bones made it a great dish to spoon up while drinking. Finishing off a round of sashimi with a warm soup — what more do I need to say hahaha. The tables were spaced wide apart and there were plenty of them, so conversation was easy and fun, and being able to grab extra side dishes from the self-serve bar was convenient. I also love corn salad and being able to eat as much as I wanted was great, plus being able to fry your own kimchi pancake meant the wait wasn't boring at all.
