Two suyuk sets for 29,000 won at Sinjuokmi, Gwangju gukbap restaurant
In short
Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch (신주옥미) is a sundae-guk and suyuk gukbap restaurant in the Suwan District of Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. A couple ordered the special spicy fern sundae-guk suyuk set (15,000 won) and the special spicy fern sticky-rice-crust pork gukbap suyuk set (14,000 won) for 29,000 won total, which brought two servings of suyuk (boiled pork slices) plus lung and liver, and the soup bowls were too big to finish. Sinjuokmi is a Blue Ribbon gukbap restaurant generous enough that two people only need to order one set meal.

My boyfriend and I had to go down to Gwangju, and while I was wondering what to eat for lunch, I found out there's an incredible restaurant called Sinjuokmi in the Suwan District. I searched it up and it turned out to be a famous Suwan District Korean lunch spot serving sundae-guk (blood sausage soup) with suyuk (boiled pork) too!! A real Blue Ribbon-certified suyuk gukbap place!! My boyfriend and I went in with high expectations ><
Where is Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch, and what are the hours?

Sinjuokmi's menu: for two people, one set meal is enough

The menu at Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch is roughly split into regular gukbap dishes OR set meals, and if two people are going I'd actually recommend just one person order a set meal! The amount of meat that comes out is bigger than you'd think, seriously ㄷㄷ
The suyuk set and sundae set are both so famous that we agonized over what to order, and ended up with the special spicy fern sundae-guk suyuk set (₩15,000) and the special spicy fern sticky-rice-crust pork gukbap suyuk set (₩14,000), for ₩29,000 total. How can it be this cheap when suyuk comes with the set!! Just a heads up that one set meal is enough for two people haha.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar at Sinjuokmi
The basic side dishes come out in pretty bowls like this, and any extra sides you want you can scoop yourself at the self-serve bar. You can also get more chives and napa cabbage kimchi.

On one side of the table there was perilla seed powder, chili paste, and salted shrimp to add into the gukbap. You can customize it to your own taste :)

They said if you leave a Naver review you also get a ₩4,000 purple sweet potato rice puff! It's limited to 10 people a day, so hurry and grab one~~ haha

Suyuk is boiled from noon, every 2 hours
They said freshly boiled pork comes out starting at noon, every 2 hours after that. If you go during one of those windows you're bound to get really delicious meat, right? haha We went a bit after 1pm.

Sticky-rice-crust pork gukbap: the rice is already in the soup
Ta-da~~ this is the sticky-rice-crust pork gukbap. Literally, sticky rice crust is rolled in inside, so there's no separate bowl of rice served. I took a bite and the 'rice' really did taste like scorched rice crust. It was my first time having rice crust in a gukbap, and it's genuinely a special treat.

There's so much meat inside, plus gosari (fernbrake), and the combination of gosari and suyuk was really great. The portion was huge and the broth was ridiculously rich. It's the kind of taste that makes you crave soju lol.

The suyuk set for two, with lung and liver
And here's the suyuk!! Since we both ordered set meals, this is 2 servings' worth haha. It might look like a small portion, but the gukbap itself was so filling we couldn't finish everything~~ ㅠㅠ The meat was really delicious, though... a shame!!! Lung and liver come with it too ><

I dipped the suyuk lightly in ssamjang (dipping sauce) and it was so tender, savory, and had a great texture. Seriously, why isn't a gukbap place with this kind of value near my house..? ㅠ

Fern is the hook, and the sundae is Byeongcheon-style
Can you see all the gosari and meat? It just keeps coming, packed generously with organ meats too. And the sundae in the sundae-guk turned out to be byeongcheon sundae, which I love.
This gosari was a bigger hook than I expected. I think I get why it's a Blue Ribbon restaurant haha. It would also be perfect for curing a hangover.

I prefer byeongcheon sundae over chapssal (sticky rice) sundae, and this gukbap had 4 pieces of byeongcheon sundae in it. There's also a ton of meat in the sundae-guk. They said they boil it 4 times a day, and maybe that's why it was extra chewy. They said it's homemade sundae too. Thanks to this, I had a hearty lunch before a long drive :)

All cleared! Cleared it out ㅋㅎ To anyone looking for a sundae-guk restaurant in the Suwan District of Gwangju, anyone hunting for good food and gukbap in Suwan, anyone wanting a solid Korean lunch in the Suwan District — please, please give Sinjuokmi Suwan District branch a try, I highly highly recommend it @!!! ♥
