Paju café, no weekend wait: weekday peach snow bingsu at Fruit Forest

I'd wanted to visit Fruit Forest for ages. Last time I came on a weekend, the wait was so long and there was nowhere to sit while waiting, so I just left. Today's a weekday and summer's finally winding down, so — round two!!

Where is Fruit Forest Paju, and what are the hours?

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store is a huge dessert café at 144 Dolgoji-gil, Paju, Gyeonggi, South Korea, occupying all three floors at the foot of Simhaksan. It's open daily from 10:00 to 21:00, last order at 20:30.

The exterior alone is overwhelming in scale. On weekends there are parking attendants on hand.

100% real mango juice?? I seriously considered switching my order to juice on the spot haha.

Walk in and fresh fruit is stacked like a mountain

The moment you step onto the first floor, the mountains of fresh fruit grab your attention haha. So much mango stacked up, looking delicious as always.

Last time I came, they were still painting a mural — now it's finished, and it's beautiful! Such a perfect match for Fruit Forest 😆

Seating and the floor-to-ceiling window views at Fruit Forest

Fruit Forest Paju Direct Store has all kinds of tables and chairs, from two-tops to big group tables, depending on party size. The floor-to-ceiling windows don't have a spectacular view, but looking out still made the space feel less closed-in.

Besides bingsu, they also have various other desserts, coffee, and juice. Fruit Forest says they attend the first fruit auction every single dawn to pick out high-sugar fruit by seeing and tasting it themselves. The fruit then goes through a ripening process, and it's only cut the moment you order, so freshness and sweetness are at their peak!! They say that from opening until now, they've stayed a 'honest dessert café that only uses fruit good enough to be sold uncut to customers.'

Why the peach snow bingsu was the pick this time

I ordered the peach bingsu. I almost went for mango, but since peaches are in season and won't be around much longer, peach it was!!

A mountain of perfectly ripe peaches piled on top — this visual is just... beautiful haha.

There's condensed milk, peach syrup, ice cream, and cheesecake mixed in, so there's fun in eating bit by bit, but the peaches alone were sweet enough to be completely satisfying on their own — the best peaches I've had all year. Since it's a milk-based bingsu, the milk ice is soft and rich, and once I melted the ice cream in and stirred it all together, it reminded me of my kids haha. I should bring them next time.

You can buy fresh fruit at Fruit Forest too

Reasonably priced 'top-grade fruit.' Even the same fruit from the same origin can vary wildly in quality and price, but Fruit Forest says their goal is to sell top-grade fruit fresh at a reasonable price. It's amazing that you can buy fresh fruit with guaranteed sweetness right at the store. But after tasting the bingsu, I totally get why people buy some to take home.

Eating that sweet, cold bingsu felt like it refilled my energy, so I'm heading back to work now. The weekend wait wasn't for nothing. No comparison to frozen-fruit bingsu at all. Such a satisfying visit — highly recommend Fruit Forest.
