Mudflat day and spa room 402 at Luna Beach, Seonjae-do pension

In short

Luna Beach Seonjae Hotel & Pension is a dog-friendly, ocean-view pension on Seonjae-do island in Ongjin, Incheon. After a mudflat outing, the writer checked into spa room 402 at 15:00 and fit the outdoor pool, the dog-only pool, a spa behind a floor-to-ceiling ocean-view window and a poolside barbecue into one day. Traveling with a fifteen-year-old senior dog, the writer was happy to see him run around far more brightly than he does at home.

This time I took my mom and Ttottto on a healing trip to Seonjae-do 🌊 Here's my review of Luna Beach Seonjae Hotel & Pension, a dog-friendly Seonjae-do stay where we packed in the spa, barbecue, and pool at this ocean-view hotel ✏️🐾

Where Luna Beach Seonjae is and how the mudflat outing fits in

📍Luna Beach Seonjae Hotel is near the center of Seonjae-do. It's about an hour and a half from Seoul, so it's great for a staycation near the city, and there's a mudflat experience site less than 5 minutes away, so it was perfect to visit right after a mudflat trip 🦪 We did the mudflat experience at Samegi Mudflat Experience Center and checked in at 15:00. As of mid-September, mudflat access hours were 11:00–15:00, so the timing lined up perfectly ⏰

Parking and check-in at Luna Beach Seonjae

If you search Luna Beach Seonjae Hotel in navigation, it directs you to the back of the building (there's no road in front), and there's plenty of parking space 🅿️ Even as a beginner driver, parking was really easy 👍🏻

I arrived 30 minutes before check-in time and they let me check in early. At check-in they asked what time I wanted the barbecue, and I said 19:00! They also have an event where you get a barbecue fee payback for writing a review, so it's worth joining 👍🏻

Room rates vary by low, high, and peak season! They're clearly posted in the lobby, so there's no worry about being overcharged 👍🏻 Extra guest is +₩20,000 per person, extra dog is +₩10,000 under 10kg / +₩20,000 over 10kg. It's hard to find a pension that allows large dogs, but Luna Beach Pension does.

Inside spa room 402 and its floor-to-ceiling ocean view

The room I visited was 402, a spa room! It's a standard 2, max 6 room, so it was quite spacious and comfortable.

From the kitchen to the dining table, sofa, table, spa tub, and bedroom, everything was kept impeccably clean, making it great for a larger family group too. There were also plenty of facilities to enjoy inside the unit, like barbecue and spa, so we could spend most of our time comfortably without going out — perfect for a staycation. 🏡✨

Best of all, the floor-to-ceiling window facing the bed was so pretty 🌟 We got to see the Seonjae-do sea's charm at every time of day — daytime, sunset, and after dark 🥹 The ocean view at sunset especially was so beautiful ☀️

You could also see the pool and the dog run from the window, so you could check how crowded it was before heading down 🤣

What amenities does spa room 402 provide?

The banquet hall at Luna Beach Seonjae

Luna Beach also has a banquet hall — a large hall with a pool table, karaoke machine, and projector, which made it a great space for group activities 🎶

Outdoor pool and dog run

Finally, the swim time I'd been so looking forward to! ⏰ We changed into swimsuits, grabbed our swim gear, and headed down to the lobby level with Ttottto~~

I was surprised the pool was bigger than it looked in photos, and the water was fairly deep at 1.5m, so kids need a guardian with them! The water was also very clean — I found out they run a robot cleaner for hours every single morning. It felt like they paid close attention to cleanliness everywhere, not just the rooms 🧹

The pool has tubes, snorkel masks, water guns, and other pool toys, so you don't even need to bring your own!! There were tubes in various sizes, including heart-shaped ones.

There are benches surrounding the pool where they set us up a spot. We ended up doing barbecue at these same benches later!

The pool was so pretty I had to take photos. Sparkling pool 🏊 Note that dogs aren't allowed in the main pool — there's a separate dog-only pool!

Right next to the pool is a large dog run where dogs can play. It looked great for large dogs too 🐕 When we went out, there were no other dogs or people, so we let Ttottto roam freely while we swam. Both the pool and the dog run have fences, so there's no need to worry about dogs getting out 👍🏻 Ttottto loved the run so much that we took him for a walk there every time we went out.

The run also had about 3–4 dog toys 🧸 Be sure to take photos with your pup in front of Luna Beach!!

Dog-only pool and dog dry room

On one side of the dog run is a dog-only pool — at knee depth for someone 164cm tall.

We put a life vest on him and let him swim. It had been years since Ttottto swam, and we've decided not to do it again haha. A dog who hates water lol ㅜㅜ It would be great for dogs that love water, though.

There's also a dog dry room in the snack shop next to the pool, so we dried him off right away. After swimming, Ttottto refused to go in lol — I guess he really loved the run that much.

What the on-site snack shop sells

While swimming we grabbed some instant noodles from the shop. Noodles after a swim... the best 🫢 They sell ingredients for barbecue, noodles, snacks, water, and more, payable by bank transfer!

There's also a dog dry room, blankets, food bowls, and other dog supplies. There's also a kitchen and fridge — since there's already pots, kitchenware, and a fridge for barbecue time, we didn't have to carry things back and forth from our room, which was so nice!

The spa in front of the ocean-view window

After swimming we headed straight back to the room for the spa! Doing spa while looking at the floor-to-ceiling ocean view... so relaxing, such a healing moment. ⚠️Bath products and dogs are not allowed in the spa! They even turned on bubble mode, which released all our fatigue before the barbecue 💆

Outdoor barbecue beside the pool

We went back down to the first floor for barbecue. We first picked 19:00 for barbecue time but the timing felt off, so we changed it to 18:00! Barbecue hours are 17:00–22:00. I called the owner a few times with random questions and to change the barbecue time, and they were kind every single time — I really appreciated it 🙏🏻

There are about 15 tables surrounding the pool, and once you pick a spot, they bring the grill to you! 🥩 Visiting here, I really thought — this would be perfect for a group trip. There's a banquet hall, a big hotel, and lots of barbecue spots — it's basically built for group retreats.

Some tables are under a roof, so you can use those on rainy days. We picked an outdoor table and they set up a parasol for us. We only found the mosquito coils at the shop after finishing barbecue ㅜㅎㅎ Make sure to light a mosquito coil before your barbecue!!

The barbecue grill is ₩20,000! While we barbecued, Ttottto went for another walk in the dog run. You can barbecue right next to the pool. You know barbecue right after swimming just hits different……

Ttottto gets a piece of meat too~

Doing barbecue, I really felt the importance of a dad… Mom and I are both barbecue-clueless, so we burned everything, and the table next to us kindly gave us some foil to line the grill ㅋㅋㅜ thank you so much 🙇

After thoroughly enjoying the barbecue, we also stopped by a great café the owner recommended when we booked, then came back to the room and watched Netflix~ end of the day 💕

A makeshift dog bed made on the room's sofa

Ttottto passed out from swimming, the mudflat experience, and all the exercise lol We forgot to bring his cushion, so we made him a makeshift bed on the sofa using the beach towels we'd brought ㅜㅜ He flatly refused the bed, though.

Who Luna Beach Seonjae suits best

  • Anyone looking for a dog-friendly pension that welcomes large dogs
  • Anyone who wants to make good memories with their dog
  • Anyone who wants a staycation near Seoul
  • Anyone looking for a group venue, like for a retreat

It had been a really long time since I traveled with Ttottto. He's fifteen this year and currently isn't in great health, so he's on medication. I was a bit worried before the trip, but seeing him so much brighter and happier than he is at home made me happy too. Seeing him enjoy it this much, I wished I'd taken him out more often sooner 🥹 Next time I want to come back with his favorite person — dad — too haha.

Above all, being able to enjoy barbecue, swimming, spa, and a full staycation all in one place was really satisfying, and the owner's kindness made the stay even more pleasant. If you want to make special memories with your dog, I recommend Luna Beach Seonjae Hotel & Pension, a dog-friendly stay on Seonjae-do! 🐾
