Korean restaurant near Bomun for a meal with parents: Hyoeunok
In short
Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch is a Korean restaurant serving beef bone rib hot pot on Bukgun 3-gil, near Bomun Lake Resort in Gyeongju. Visiting with parents as a party of three, the writer ordered the signature Ppyeoberest Original 5-item set: four large rib racks eaten with minari and cabbage kimchi, then beef shabu-shabu, kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) and gondre porridge. Hyoeunok suits family travellers who want a filling, mild meal rather than anything spicy.

Today I'm sharing my visit to "Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch," a Gyeongju restaurant near Bomun Lake Resort. When you're traveling in Gyeongju, there comes a moment when you want to find somewhere healthy and hearty to eat with your parents. That's exactly what happened to me — I went looking for a place like that and ended up at Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch near Bomun.
Location and hours of Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch
Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch is located near Bomun Lake Resort, so it was easy to stop by while looking for a meal during a Gyeongju trip. Especially when traveling with parents like we were, you end up looking for places that feel a bit more filling and comfortable when choosing what to order. This time, after sightseeing around Bomun, we looked for somewhere good for a family meal and ended up here.
- Hours 11:00-21:00 (break time 15:00-17:00)
- Notes: reservations, group use, takeout, free Wi-Fi available

Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch has parking space in front of the building, so it was convenient to visit by car. And even if that lot is full, there's a public parking lot right nearby, so parking isn't really something to worry about.
When eating in Gyeongju, you naturally end up looking for a place with that distinct Gyeongju atmosphere. Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch has an exterior that brings to mind a hanok, so I was already looking forward to it before even stepping inside — it felt like a great stop for a Gyeongju trip.
Mother-of-pearl decor and lattice patterns, the interior mood

Stepping inside, the traditional feel carried through from the exterior into every corner. In particular, the walls had mother-of-pearl decoration that gave off a soft shimmer, and the tables had a pattern reminiscent of traditional latticed doors and windows. I'm someone who really likes interiors with an East Asian aesthetic, so I was impressed the moment I walked in.

The tables were spaced relatively generously, and there were also some separated seating areas on one side, which seemed great for family meals or larger groups. When you're visiting with parents like we were, having a comfortable seating atmosphere matters just as much as the food. On that front, I think this is a good reference point for anyone looking for a family meal spot during a Gyeongju trip.
Ordering the Ppyeoberest Original 5-item set for three
What we ordered was the Ppyeoberest Original 5-item set.

The menu we ordered was Hyoeunok's signature dish, the Ppyeoberest Original 5-item set. We visited as three and shared it together. I think it's called "Ppyeoberest" (뼈베레스트, a play on "bone" and "Everest") because the bones are stacked up as high as Everest — and it really is stacked impressively high, haha.

The Ppyeoberest Original 5-item set starts with beef bone rib meat, followed by minari and mushrooms, beef, and kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). On top of that, you finish with gondre porridge, so even though we ordered a single menu item, several courses were served, and we ended up stuffed to the brim.
When the food first arrived, what caught my eye right away was the beef bone rib meat piled up like a mountain. Before visiting Hyoeunok, I'd looked up a lot of blog posts about this dish's hearty visuals and course structure, but seeing it in person, I understood why it's the signature menu.
Four rib racks — how we ate the beef bone rib meat
We started with the beef bone rib meat first. It comes already cooked, so you just need to reheat it — but we let it simmer a bit longer, until the meat naturally separated from the bone.
Eaten that way, the meat was really tender yet chewy, so I kept reaching for more. In particular, there were four large rib racks in there, so just eating the meat alone started to fill us up before long.

And the combination I enjoyed most was eating the meat together with minari (water dropwort) and well-fermented cabbage kimchi. The clean taste of the meat, plus the fragrance of the minari, plus the well-aged kimchi on the side, made everything taste even cleaner. Rather than just eating meat continuously, adding the minari and kimchi kept things from getting monotonous, so we could enjoy it deliciously right to the end.
Adding broth at the self-serve bar for beef shabu-shabu
Once you've eaten a good amount of the beef bone rib meat, you add a bit more broth from the self-serve bar and then cook beef in it shabu-shabu style. Since we'd already eaten a fair amount of rib meat by that point, we ate the beef slowly, one piece at a time.
Even though we were already pretty full, eating it with the broth gave it a whole different, delicious feel. Above all, going from rib meat to shabu-shabu in the same pot made the meal feel like something we could enjoy at a leisurely pace.

Finishing with kalguksu and gondre porridge
And last came the kalguksu and gondre porridge. With the three of us eating together, we were truly stuffed by the end. Still, after the meal, my parents said that even though they were full, it felt like they'd had a genuinely healthy meal for the first time in a while. As the one who brought them along, hearing that made me quietly proud.
Traveling around Gyeongju, you eat a lot of delicious things, but with parents along, I thought a menu like this — meat, vegetables, broth, noodles, and porridge served in sequence rather than something spicy or intense — was a good choice.
Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch: how was it with parents?
1. A hearty meal that works well with parents 2. Enjoying the Ppyeoberest 5-item set to the fullest 3. Softly cooked beef bone rib meat that stands out 4. A full course from ribs to shabu-shabu to kalguksu 5. A good Korean restaurant for family meals in Gyeongju
On this visit to Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch with my parents, we tried the signature Ppyeoberest Original 5-item set. At first I was surprised by the mountain of beef bone rib meat, but as we ate our way through rib meat, shabu-shabu, kalguksu, and gondre porridge, the three of us ended up finishing a truly hearty meal.
Satisfaction felt especially high visiting with my parents. If you're looking for somewhere to eat with your parents during a Gyeongju trip, or want a hearty family meal near Bomun, Hyoeunok Gyeongju Branch is worth considering. After eating our fill with my parents on this Gyeongju trip, it was a meal that left me quietly happy too.
