Seogyeongju Station Korean BBQ, 700g for two: Ddeoggogi Ttaenggijae

We stopped by Ddeoggogi Ttaenggijae near Seogyeongju Station on a weekend evening. I usually go for pork belly or pork neck, but that day I was craving something a bit different — a special cut of pork called dwitgogi — so off we went haha.

I found this place while looking for good pork belly spots in Gyeongju, and what got me most excited was that a robot does the first grilling pass for you!! I wasn't sure 700g would be manageable for two people, but whether we finished it or not, I'll tell you below haha.

Where is Ddeoggogi Ttaenggijae, and when is it open?

Ddeoggogi Ttaenggijae is located at 548-14 Yongdam-ro, Hyeongok-myeon, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, near Central Prugio Apartments. It's open from 4:40pm to 11pm (last order 9:30pm), closed every Monday.

That said, the in-store menu board actually says OPEN 5pm, LAST ORDER 10:30pm, so I'd recommend double-checking before you visit. There's free parking behind the building, table seating that works for groups, and WiFi. The restrooms are gender-separated and located outside.

How to get to Ddeoggogi Ttaenggijae from Seogyeongju Station

It's on the first floor of the building, so it wasn't hard to find. There's a big white lit sign reading 'pork specialty restaurant' and a smaller yellow-lit sign next to it. We went in the evening, and the lit-up signs were easy to spot from a distance.

There's a wood deck out front with two yellow folding chairs, which seems to double as a waiting area — but luckily we got seated right away. The outdoor restrooms are gender-separated and locked with a passcode.

What Ddeoggogi Ttaenggijae feels like at 7pm on a Sunday

We visited around 7pm on a Sunday, and there were plenty of families and the place was pretty full.

The interior has white brick walls and gray-toned tables, giving it an overall clean look. Each table has its own charcoal grill and a black duct hanging from the ceiling.

There's also a separate section with wooden seating that had a slightly different vibe.

We ordered using the tablet at each table. Since you can pick from photos, there's no pressure to flag down staff.

Grilling the 700g dwitgogi combo special with two bowls of rice

We ordered the dwitgogi combo special 700g and two bowls of rice for two people. According to the menu, the combo includes a mix of dwitgogi, hangjeongsal (pork neck), and pork belly, so we got to try the pork belly too.

A basket of wrap vegetables came out first, along with a spicy scallion salad tossed with lettuce. The side dish plate had various pickled vegetables, cabbage kimchi, and preserved sides. We also got a generous pile of raw garlic and a fluffy steamed egg on the house! The sauces included curry powder, bean powder, and more, plus the standard ssamjang (dipping sauce) and salt.

Honestly, I didn't expect the dwitgogi to come out this thick.

The pieces were so big that cooking them through on the charcoal grill wasn't easy. Both of us were busy the whole time with tongs and scissors haha.

The outside grilled up crispy while the inside stayed chewy, and it got tastier the more you chewed.

We put the meat over rice with sauce on top, and also wrapped it in lettuce and perilla leaves with pickled radish and ssamjang. Eating it with rice made for a satisfying dinner. 700g felt like a lot for two people, but we ended up finishing most of it and walking out with barely anything left.

Can two people finish 700g of dwitgogi?

Grilling the meat took some effort, but that effort paid off with a genuinely chewy texture. I also liked that with so many different sauces, we didn't get tired of it even after finishing a whole plate. Judging by how busy both our chopsticks stayed until the end, we clearly enjoyed the meal! Sunday evenings tend to get crowded, so it's a good idea to give yourself plenty of time when visiting :)
