Seogwipo garden café with three cake picks: Monocle Jeju
In short

Tips posted at the stone-wall path entrance
Monocle Jeju appeared after walking along a very Jeju-like stone-wall path. Before going in, I found a sign with tips for enjoying Monocle—and there were three of them 😊
- Pets are welcome.
- Children are welcome too.
- Outside food and vehicle entry are restricted.
It is worth keeping these in mind before entering 😊 As I walked farther along the stone-wall path, I found the brick Monocle Jeju building amid pretty gardens. In the bright sunshine, the building and garden took on such beautiful colors that it somehow felt even more like being on Jeju Island—and so relaxing 👍

There were tables deeper inside the spacious garden and outdoor tables beside the café as well, so it seemed like a wonderful place to unwind over a cup of coffee outside on a nice day. The tables were roomy and plentiful too, so it would be great for groups!

As I was about to go inside, I spotted Blue Ribbon stickers by the entrance. It turned out to be a dessert spot that had received the Blue Ribbon for seven consecutive years, from 2020 through 2026… 👍 No wonder the cheesecake was unbelievably delicious…

An interior where sunshine and plants come together
Rather than feeling elaborately decorated, the interior had wooden-toned objects and green plants naturally coming together for a calm, warm atmosphere. The large windows brought in the green view and sunlight from outside, making it great for photos as well as relaxed conversation and healing time 👍

I came to the counter to order and found desserts displayed beside it. There were so many kinds of cake, as if to prove why this place earned a Blue Ribbon as a dessert destination. Every one looked so pretty in color and shape—and so delicious!

Drinks and cakes ordered at the kiosk
We ordered from the kiosk beside the counter, where photos of the drinks and desserts made it easy to check what everything looked like before ordering. For drinks, we chose an iced Americano and iced Jeju matcha latte; for dessert, sweet pumpkin cheesecake, Victoria cake, and chocolate fudge cake!

After ordering, I looked around the café and saw that Monocle Jeju merchandise was also for sale. There were T-shirts, cups, hats, and more, so have a look around 😊

As we sat and chatted, our order came out quickly. The drinks and desserts looked incredibly delicious just sitting there, and the colors were gorgeous too.

So how were the matcha and coffee?
Iced Jeju matcha latte
The iced matcha latte first brought out matcha’s subtle fragrance and gentle bitterness. It was not an artificially sweet matcha latte; its nutty, lightly bitter matcha flavor came through beautifully. The milk kept the bitterness from becoming too strong and made it go down smoothly, so it was easy to drink without feeling heavy!

Iced Americano
Perhaps because it used beans roasted in-house, the iced Americano first tasted clean and nutty, followed by the coffee’s gentle bitter character. It was neither overly bitter nor sharply acidic, so it was refreshing to drink cold 👍

My thoughts on the three cakes
Victoria cake
The Victoria cake combined sponge cake with crème anglaise buttercream and raspberry jam, so the highlights were the butter’s nutty richness and the berry jam’s sweet-tart flavor. The sponge was soft and moist, while the raspberry jam between the layers had a clear sweet-tart taste, making it so delicious without the buttercream ever becoming cloying!

Chocolate fudge cake
The second cake, the chocolate fudge cake, had a deep, rich chocolate flavor. Rather than being simply sweet, it had a subtle cocoa-like bitterness that I really liked. The cake itself was moist and dense, then melted softly in the mouth—it was so good 👍

Popular sweet pumpkin cheesecake
Lastly, Monocle Jeju’s popular sweet pumpkin cheesecake!! One bite made it immediately clear why it is so popular: sweet pumpkin’s gentle sweetness and nutty flavor came together with the cheese’s rich, smooth taste. The mild flavor of sweet pumpkin paired perfectly with the dense richness of the cheese, and its texture was soft and moist with a slight dense creaminess. It was the kind of taste that made me understand why it received a Blue Ribbon 👍
Number one among all the cheesecakes I have ever had!!!

I recommend Monocle Jeju, a Jeju dessert café in Namwon with a spacious, pleasant garden and even lovely distant views!
