Don Gueo is a black pork BBQ restaurant near Sehwa Port in Gujwa-eup, Jeju City, Jeju. The lunch special runs from 11am to 4pm, long enough for a late lunch, so the writer ordered the ₩21,000 black pork set with melजeot (fermented anchovy sauce), grilled bracken fern, kimchi jjigae, and steamed egg. Exterior — the alley near Sehwa Port, and how easy parking was
Turning into the alley near Sehwa Port, a clean single-story building with a black signboard catches your eye right away. There's a dedicated parking area right in front, which made it super convenient to park our rental car. Even from the outside, everything was tidy and fuss-free, so the first impression was really clean.

Interior — table spacing and ventilation
Stepping inside, a pleasantly organized dining hall opens up. Tables are spaced generously apart, so nearby tables didn't disturb our meal at all — very comfortable. The ventilation was also excellent, so the smoke and smell from grilling meat didn't linger indoors and cleared out right away.

Signature menu
The stars of the menu are thick-cut black pork grilled cuts and a mixed grill. On top of that, the standout item is the excellent-value black pork set, available only during lunch hours (11:00–16:00).

The basic spread

What I ordered — the black pork set, ₩21,000 per person

We ordered the black pork set. Lunch specials usually end early, but this place changed its lunch hours to run from 11am all the way to 4pm, so we could enjoy it without any pressure even at a late lunch. At ₩21,000 per person, the price really stood out as a great value considering typical tourist-area prices.

After ordering, aged kimchi, Jeju-grown bracken fern, garlic scapes and mushrooms arrived to grill on the plate, along with meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) placed right in the center.
Then came the black pork itself — vivid pink-red meat with an ideal balance of fat and lean. As soon as we laid the thick cuts on the hot grill, a sizzle rang out and a savory meaty aroma spread instantly. Haha.

They seared the outside first to lock in the juices, then cut it into bite-size pieces and finished cooking the cut surfaces. A staff member carefully watched the timing so nothing burned, so we could sit back and wait comfortably, haha.

Dipped in salt, then in meljeot
I took the first well-cooked piece with just a light dip in salt, and the savory juices burst out the moment I bit in, with a wonderfully chewy texture. There was zero gaminess, and the more I chewed, the more a rich, clean flavor came through.

Next, I dipped the meat into the bubbling meljeot. With no fishy taste at all, its salty, punchy umami lifted the natural sweetness of the meat even further.

Wrapping a piece with bracken fern and aged kimchi that had soaked up the pork fat on the grill, and lettuce around it, gave a harmonious depth of flavor. The fern's earthy nuttiness paired with the meat's chewiness made it hard to put my chopsticks down, haha.

Kimchi jjigae and steamed egg included in the set
With the included black pork kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) and rice, the whole spread felt really solid. The savory soybean-paste-based broth was packed with vegetables and tofu, and it cleared the palate nicely after all that rich meat.

And of course, steamed egg. Haha.

For ₩21,000 a person, we got to enjoy quality meat, a variety of side dishes, and stew all together, so satisfaction stayed high throughout the meal. It was a hearty, complete meal, haha.
In short, Don Gueo is
Don Gueo, a restaurant worth visiting in Gujwa, Jeju, lets you enjoy tidy basic side dishes and quality meat comfortably at a reasonable price.
