Jeju café for gamtae oranda car snacks: Cheongchuni Oranda

In short

Cheongchuni Oranda is a café and dessert shop at Dongmun Market in Jeju, Jeju. After returning 3 years later, I sampled oranda and gwajul, then enjoyed gamtae and yuzu oranda as car snacks during the trip. Verdict: the nutty, lightly savory gamtae oranda was my favorite.

Visit to Cheongchuni Oranda at Jeju Dongmun Market

Back at Cheongchuni Oranda after 3 years

A Jeju trip again after 3 years! 🍊 Being back in Jeju after so long, everywhere I went I kept thinking, “Oh?! This is where I came with Dambi!” and little old memories came flooding back one by one!!

Three years had definitely passed, but seeing familiar places again made those memories bubble right up. “We ate this here!” That kind of reminiscing is part of the fun of traveling too, haha. The place I visited this time also holds memories for us: Cheongchuni Oranda!

Returning to Cheongchuni Oranda

I had visited once on my Jeju trip 3 years ago, so I came back this time. Back then our accommodation was nearby, so we walked over from there. This time, we were driving around, parked at a nearby public lot, and walked over. There is a public market parking lot right next door, and although it is paid, it was inexpensive and convenient. I also loved that it connects straight to the market!

What I especially remembered from my previous visit was the orange sign, haha. At the time, I had heard that gwajul, a traditional Jeju rice snack, was famous in Jeju, so I came here to buy some. I looked around and picked out snacks then too, and returning after all this time felt oddly nice. There were quite a lot of people again this time. It seems like many visitors stop by while looking for snacks or souvenirs during their Jeju trips.

Choosing oranda and gwajul through tastings

There were many kinds of oranda, a crunchy puffed-rice confection, and gwajul to browse, which was fun in itself. Best of all, samples were available, so I could taste different flavors before choosing! There were more varieties than I expected, so I wondered what to get, but as I tasted them one by one, each had its own charm.

My favorite of this trip: gamtae oranda

I had been drawn to gwajul in the past, but this time I somehow wanted oranda more, haha. And there was one flavor I completely fell for: gamtae oranda! It was so delicious to my taste that I’d call it my current favorite oranda, haha.

When I think of oranda, sweetness comes to mind first. But with gamtae, a type of seaweed, added in, it had a nutty, slightly savory taste that was so appealing. It was not just intensely sweet—the distinctive gamtae flavor made me keep reaching for more.

Fresh and clean yuzu oranda

The yuzu oranda was delicious too. It had yuzu’s distinctive fresh flavor and aroma, so it was sweet but easy to eat with a clean finish. The two were completely different in character, so it was hard to choose just one, haha. In the end, I picked out a little of this and that for snacks to eat during the trip.

Snacks eaten in the car on our Jeju trip

Whenever we drove somewhere during our Jeju trip, I pulled one out and munched on it, haha. You keep eating delicious food when you travel, but you also quietly need snacks that are easy to eat on the move, right? Oranda was just perfect for that.

They were easy to pack and carry around, and great for eating one or two at a time, so they were really nice Jeju travel snacks. More than anything, returning to a place I had visited 3 years ago felt somehow special. 💜 I came to buy gwajul before, but this time I tasted oranda and made another kind of memory, haha. If you are looking for an easy snack to eat during a Jeju trip or a Jeju-only souvenir, I think it would be nice to stop by Cheongchuni Oranda!!

Oranda as a Jeju travel souvenir

After trying it this time, I completely fell for the gamtae oranda! The yuzu oranda is also fresh and delicious, so choose according to your taste. On this return to Jeju after 3 years, I revisited old memories and discovered a new favorite snack too. 🧡
