Why duck instead of beef?

My husband, who's genuinely serious about staying healthy, really loved Opumchae's duck bulgogi. Beef often comes to mind for nourishing meals, but duck, rich in unsaturated fatty acids and essential amino acids, is actually much better for you, haha!

With good fats that support vascular health along with energy recovery and detox benefits, it felt much lighter to enjoy than beef. This place carefully selects 100% domestic, handmade genuine ingredients and healthy raw materials, nailing both nutrition and taste.

Inside Opumchae: dining hall and seating

Trustworthy, worry-free ingredients naturally build confidence in this Nari Park favorite. Opumchae, a well-loved duck restaurant in Yangju, has an open, pleasant hall and generously spaced seating that puts you at ease.

It's a warm space where everyone from 3-year-olds to grandparents in their 80s can sit comfortably. Opumchae started from the owner's question, 'Why is duck still such an unfamiliar food?' and went through more than 200 rounds of recipe testing to perfect its current taste.

In particular, a 72-hour aging process draws out the duck's deep flavor, carefully building a savory structure where glutamate and inosinate work in harmony. It's not an artificial seasoned taste but a deep umami drawn out through time and care — you'll understand once you try it, haha.

What's on the unlimited vegetable self-bar

Off to one side of the Opumchae dining room is a neatly maintained, clean unlimited vegetable self-bar. I really appreciated being able to freely grab as much fresh wrap greens and side dishes as I wanted without worrying about it. The pairing of crisp, fresh vegetables with duck meat was so good that we ended up eating way more vegetables than usual.

The Couple Set for Two, ₩42,000: what you get

We ordered the signature Couple Set for Two (₩42,000). True to the signature duck flower bulgogi (오리꽃불고기), made with Korea's first method of its kind, the bright red plating arranged like a fully bloomed flower won me over before I even took a bite.

As the meat hit the hot grill, it sizzled cheerfully and a fragrant, savory aroma filled the table. My husband's eyes lit up after just one bite, haha. There was absolutely no gamey duck smell, and the thin, tender meat that curled easily as you ate was moist with natural umami.

It sat lighter on the stomach than beef while still delivering a rich, luxurious flavor that clings to the palate — truly deserving of its reputation as a favorite spot in Goeup, Yangju.

Opumchae's standout touch, the bullocho (불로초, herbal-fruit) sauce, went incredibly well with the duck too.

Finishing with self-cooked fried rice, ₩3,000

They also have plenty of other nourishing menu items, like red rose duck jumulleok bulgogi and rich hwangchil samgyetang, so we're planning to come back with our parents during the festival, haha. When you've got a bit of the flower bulgogi left, there's one course you absolutely can't skip: self-cooked fried rice (₩3,000)!

Using the good fat that renders out from the duck, they stir in fluffy rice, crunchy vegetables, and seaweed flakes, frying it up golden with a spatula. Scraping up the crispy, crackly scorched rice stuck to the bottom of the grill left me feeling warm and thoroughly full.
