Okjeong BBQ restaurant with 2-hour basement parking: Mat Chandeul
In short
Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Yangju Branch is an aged-meat Korean BBQ restaurant on Okjeongdong-ro 7da-gil in Yangju, Gyeonggi. Remembering an earlier meal, the writer came back for two servings of aged pork belly, one serving of aged pork neck and chadol (beef brisket) doenjang stew, and the staff grilled everything at the table. With 2 hours of parking in the building's underground lot and a breezy window seat, Mat Chandeul was another satisfying meal.

Today I'm sharing my review of a return visit to Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Yangju Branch. I'd been there before and remembered that the staff grilled the meat themselves and the quality was pretty good, so when I was craving meat again, I went back!

Where do you park at Mat Chandeul in Okjeong, Yangju?

Mat Chandeul Wang Sogeum Gui Yangju Branch is located right on a main road in central Okjeong, so it's easy to find! You can use the building's underground parking lot, and if you register your car after your meal, you get 2 hours of free parking, so you don't have to worry much about parking time when you drive there.
Inside Mat Chandeul: the dining room and the window seats

Once inside, the restaurant felt huge and was neatly organized overall. I've actually used it before with a group of more than 10 people! The tables are also spaced out generously, so eating there doesn't feel too crowded or hectic.

This time we got lucky with a window seat, and the cool breeze coming in made it feel like a little getaway even though we were eating meat indoors. It was nice and cool in the evening, haha. Usually when eating at a Korean BBQ restaurant you're focused on the grilling smell and the indoor atmosphere, but the window seat with the breeze made the meal feel a bit more relaxed. Since we'd made a reservation, they had water and the basic side dishes already set up for us, which was nice!
Mat Chandeul Yangju Branch menu and lunch special

Mat Chandeul mainly sells aged meat. Their chadolbagi (thin-sliced beef brisket) and yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare) look tasty too. :)

If you visit for lunch, this lunch special is great value! Order 3 servings of meat and get stone-pot rice and doenjang stew free! We came in the evening so we unfortunately couldn't take advantage of it — I'm planning to visit at lunchtime next time, haha.
Ordering two servings of aged pork belly and one of pork neck
- Aged pork belly x2 servings
- Aged pork neck x1 serving
- Chadol doenjang stew
- Rice
- Drinks, alcohol

The side dishes are prepared neatly and cleanly. My favorites are the grillable baek-kimchi (white kimchi) and the seasoned bean sprouts.

We ordered thickly sliced aged raw pork belly and raw pork neck, and even visually the meat looked nice and thick, with a clean color and texture that felt fresh. They also weigh the ordered meat in grams before serving it, which is a nice reassurance.

What is it like when the staff grill the pork for you?
The meat browning nicely on the grill... 🤍 One of the strengths of Mat Chandeul is that the staff grill the meat for you themselves, which means it doesn't burn and tastes even better. You don't have to keep track of timing or constantly check how done it is, so it was easy to keep chatting through the meal.

They cooked the outside of the meat first, then cut it into bite-sized pieces while continuing to grill. Since the meat was thick, it still had some bite when I took a bite, and being aged meat, it had a subtle savoriness that came through the more I chewed. The thinly sliced potatoes were also right up my alley — they grilled potato, baek-kimchi, and salted shrimp together, so topping the meat with them was so good. >_<

They set the well-grilled salted shrimp, baek-kimchi, and various side dishes on the grilled meat, ready to eat! Being able to try different combinations and put together whatever I wanted was really satisfying, haha.

My favorite combination! Meat with myeong-i namul (mountain garlic leaf), a dab of wasabi, topped with baek-kimchi and seasoned bean sprouts, all in one big bite — that was the best.
Why the chadol doenjang stew is a must at Mat Chandeul

Can't skip the doenjang stew (soybean paste stew)! At Mat Chandeul you can choose between chadol (beef brisket), perilla leaf, or shepherd's purse doenjang stew — we ordered the chadol version and ate it with rice. Packed with meat, it had a rich, savory depth — I think it's a must-order. Haha, last time I had the shepherd's purse version too, and it was great — I'd recommend shepherd's purse once and chadol twice 😋
Was the return visit to Mat Chandeul worth it?
It was great revisiting a place I'd been to before after a while and having another satisfying meal. In particular, since the staff grill the meat for you, I didn't have to keep watching the grill during the meal, and the window seat with the cool breeze made for a really pleasant time. If you're looking for a place in Okjeong, Yangju where staff grill the meat for you, or if you love the thick, chewy texture of aged meat, I'd recommend giving this Okjeong pork belly spot, Mat Chandeul, a try! 😋
