Want tonkatsu and rolls in one meal? Choi Dining in Okjeong, Yangju

Ever have one of those days where you want tonkatsu AND rolls, and wonder where to go for Japanese food in Okjeong? haha

For days like that, a good candidate is Choi Dining, an Okjeong go-to I visited recently~

According to the store description, it's centered on tonkatsu (돈카츠) but you can also enjoy Japanese dishes like salmon and futomaki (thick sushi roll) there!

I arrived around 5pm on a Friday. Maybe because it was still early, there were only a few customers in the dining hall ^^

Where is Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong, and where do you park?

Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong is close to the Okjeong 2-dong Community Center. Think of it as next to e-Pyunhansesang Okjeong Urban Central, roughly between Okjeong Jungang Station and Okjeong Lake Park~

Seemed like a good spot to walk off dinner toward the lake park afterward lol. When you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Okjeong, just search Choi Dining Yangju Okjeong on the map and it'll pop right up!

Inside Choi Dining: floor-to-ceiling windows and yellow tile

The first thing that caught my eye at Choi Dining was the floor-to-ceiling window. You could see the evening sign lights outside, which gave it a real dusk atmosphere. The floor is yellow tile with round white tables and wooden chairs spaced out here and there.

Each chair had a white cushion, so it looked comfortable even for sitting a while~ Track lighting ran along the ceiling, giving it a bright, clean feel too.

The back wall has a wood-toned finish. Yellow and red signage runs along it reading things like FUTOMAKI, Choi Dining, JAPANESE FUSION DINING. There was also a white cloth on the wall with a character drawn on it and the Japanese word おいしい! (delicious!) written on it haha. Next to it, the kitchen counter was open, so I could see the staff working.

With round lighting and potted plants added in, it had a cozy little Japanese-restaurant feel ^^

Choi Dining's futomaki: salmon and fried shrimp in every slice

What caught my eye the most that day was the Choi Dining futomaki!

They lined the futomaki up on a long white plate over a bed of bamboo leaves. Looking at the cross-section, the colors were really varied. On one side, a big chunk of salmon sits, and next to it plenty of yellow pickled radish. Below that, rolled egg and fried shrimp are tucked in,

and green cucumber fills it out refreshingly. I also spotted a piece of something that looked like a brown braised ingredient. Getting several ingredients in one bite is the charm of futomaki, right? haha The black seaweed, white rice, and colorful fillings together made the plate look really vibrant.

One piece was plated standing up, so you could see the fillings poking out even better. Beside the plate there was a mayo sauce sprinkled with red powder, and pink pickled ginger came alongside too.

Not gonna lie, my chopsticks were slow because I was too busy taking photos lol

The chive-piled bowl: minced meat with an egg yolk on top

Next to the futomaki was a dish piled full of chives. On a wide cream-colored bowl, finely chopped chives were stacked high, with seasoned minced meat sitting in the middle.

On top of that, an egg yolk was gently placed, and it was finished with a sprinkle of pepper and red powder.

The contrast between the green chives and yellow yolk really caught the eye. It naturally made me wonder what it'd be like to burst the yolk and mix it all together~ Behind the bowl I could also see a hot plate. We also ordered mazesoba (mixed noodles) and tonkatsu on top of that lol. Guess we were hungry lol

Is Choi Dining good for solo diners and family meals?

If you're looking for a good Japanese restaurant in Okjeong, give Choi Dining a thought. The store description says it works for solo dining, family meals, and even late-night eats, and looking at the table setup, it really did seem easy to find a seat whether you come alone or with a group.
