Limited mangosteen bingsu and Jeju citrus tea at Moonbird, Yangju

Today I'm bringing you a review of a really special bingsu (shaved ice dessert) I had! Ever since that mukkuseulnang place in Jeju, I've been obsessed with eating bingsu as dessert haha. So today I'll tell you about my trip to Moonbird, famous as a must-visit café in Ogjeong, to try the mangosteen bingsu!

Moonbird's location, hours, and parking

Moonbird has a big parking lot so parking was super easy! I was worried there wouldn't be space since there were so many customers, but the lot was so spacious there were plenty of spots haha 🍀

Right in front of the café, cars are banned and smoking is prohibited, so it seemed like a great spot for kids to run around. On my way out I actually saw kids running around there.

Kids-care zone and garden usage info

This is the sign you see right when you walk in. Moonbird isn't a no-kids zone — it's a kids-care zone!🧑‍🍼👩‍🍼 And it seems like the owner really cares about the garden haha. There's good signage about protecting the garden while you use it, so as long as you follow basic etiquette you should be fine.

The bathroom is located inside. I liked that it's far from the tables!

Apparently this place was even featured on a show called Matchelin Guide! And right next to it was the brunch menu — since it opens in the morning, having brunch on a weekday morning here sounds so relaxing and nice 🥺🥺

There was even a photo printing machine haha. Taking photos and printing them out at Moonbird seems like it would make a great memory.

Moonbird's baked goods, cakes, and bread lineup

True to its dessert-café reputation, there's a wide variety of baked treats too. Cookies, butter rice cakes, Kitty madeleines, financiers — so many options!

Maybe because it's famous for cakes, I saw several with reservation tags on them! There was also a doejjonkoo cake haha. Since it's fall, there was a fig cake as a new seasonal item, and it looked so delicious!

Random fact: I had a fig cake with my best friend last year and it was seriously delicious!!!! Since this place is known for cakes and drinks, I actually visited a few times before — without any sponsorship! — just to eat cake and drinks haha. Highly recommend the cakes 👍🏻👍🏻 Especially the ones with milk cream were great.

Besides cakes, there's a huge variety of breads too. Pollack roe baguette, white loaf, pound cake, doejjonkoo, garlic baguette, salt bread, croissant, mont blanc, pie manju, and more — with so many choices, whoever you go with, there's probably something they'd like!

Why I chose the limited mangosteen bingsu over mango bingsu

They even have both classic and signature coffee menus! And since they're known for cakes, they have delicious fruit cakes — and various bingsu made with that same great fruit! Even the mango bingsu isn't just regular mango — it's made with Jeju apple mango!!!

I agonized between mango bingsu and mangosteen bingsu, but since I'd just had mango bingsu recently, and this one was labeled as a limited menu item that I'd never tried before, I went with the mangosteen bingsu! I also ordered the Jeju green citrus tea‼️‼️

The space is split into two sections! The first section has some really big tables and a few 4-seaters — there's a huge table like this! I personally prefer the inner space haha. It has more group tables and 4-seaters.

Right next to the seats there's a window like this, and the view looks so pretty, like a framed picture 🩵

There are also 2-seaters like this, along with a space where you can sit and enjoy the view. There's a smaller group table area set up too!

It says group tables for 6+ people are only available on weekends and holidays, and open to everyone on weekdays. There are outlets down below and it's a Wi-Fi zone🛜, so it seems perfect for having brunch and working on your laptop in the morning!

How did the mangosteen bingsu and Jeju citrus tea taste?

The citrus tea and mangosteen bingsu came out quickly! Aren't they both so pretty visually haha. Moonbird's drinks looked so pretty too — total photo-op material..📸📸

There was quite a lot of mangosteen too!!?? There was coco jelly as well haha. And underneath, milk ice! The portion was about 1.5 servings — enough for two people to share lightly as dessert!

The tea was sweeter than I expected! If you like sweet drinks, I'd recommend it! (Personally, I think peppermint tea pairs better with bingsu haha.)

The mangosteen was more tangy than sweet! It was all nicely prepped so it was super easy to eat haha. There were a few pieces with seeds, but mangosteen seeds are easy to pick around so it wasn't really a bother haha.

Most of all, the milk ice was so delicious that even just the milk and coco jelly alone were tasty haha. You could add extra toppings like condensed milk, fruit, rice cake, cookies, and more — I recommend the condensed milk! It makes the milk ice even sweeter 💓

Why I'd recommend Moonbird as a big dessert café in Yangju

They also gave me a paper with a notice like this. Having a separate smoking area was nice — it meant both non-smokers and smokers could use the space comfortably haha.

If you're looking for a big café with great desserts in Yangju, give Moonbird a try haha. The seats were comfortable and the tables had decent spacing, so it was easy to enjoy even with a lot of customers around.

I didn't try them today, but my recommended menu items are the fruit cake and the coconut coffee smoothie ⭐️ Next time I'll try the Jeju apple mango cake haha. The open, airy feel and the great view made it a really healing place to enjoy delicious dessert haha. With so many spacious seats, it also seems like a good spot to visit with family coming in from out of town during holidays~!
