Pohang crab restaurant, 1.8kg tank-picked for ₩150,000: Gallilli

In short

Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang is a snow crab and sashimi restaurant halfway down the crab-and-sashimi lane of Jukdo Fish Market in Pohang. Over dinner with her mother, the writer picked two medium Russian bakdal snow crabs weighing 1.8kg in total straight from the tank and paid ₩150,000 including the table setting fee, alongside a generous starter spread of abalone porridge, clam soup and sweet potato fritters. The crab yield at Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang was so good that the two of them were full before touching the complimentary fried rice and spicy stew.

Why we picked Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang on Jukdo Market's crab-and-sashimi lane

A trip to Pohang with mom! The whole point of this trip was to eat fresh, delicious crab. We headed to Jukdo Market for dinner and slowly wandered down the crab-and-sashimi street lined with countless restaurants. After looking around, we settled on Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang, which stood out for being clean and tidy about halfway down the street.

Walking in, I liked how bright and airy the lighting was, and how spacious and well-kept the place felt. The tables were spaced generously and everything was tidy — a nice, comfortable atmosphere for a meal with mom. The restrooms were also clean and separated for men and women!

The menu and choosing your crab from the tank

The menu board listed set courses with fixed prices — crab, red crab, bakdal snow crab, sashimi sets — but if you want to focus purely on crab like we did, you can also pick straight from the tank and pay market price per kg.

Since we wanted to fill up on crab alone, we went to the tank with the owner and picked two medium Russian bakdal snow crabs (1.8kg total) ourselves.

The table setting fee was ₩5,000 per person (₩10,000 for the two of us), and with the day's market price we ended up paying ₩150,000 total! (Prices can vary since it's market price.) The value was excellent, too, since a hearty banchan spread plus complimentary crab roe fried rice and spicy stew were all included.

What came with the meal: the starter side dishes

Once we ordered, the table filled up generously starting with abalone porridge before the main course, then corn cheese, ganjang gejang (soy-marinated crab), sweet potato fritters, assorted seafood, and a pot brimming with clam soup.

Clam soup: The clam soup, loaded with bean sprouts, clams and mussels, was bubbling away, and one sip of the broth was so refreshing and clear that I kept going back for more. The finely chopped chili gave it a gentle, spicy kick that hit exactly my taste.

Fritters and banchan: The sweet potato fritters, fried fresh, were hot and crispy — really delicious. The buttery toast topped with crab meat salad and corn cheese was also a savory treat that filled my mouth with flavor. The aged baek-kimchi (white kimchi) cleansed the palate nicely too. (The ganjang gejang had a slightly fishy note, so it might be a bit polarizing!)

How much meat was in the 1.8kg of bakdal snow crab?

While we were eating the banchan, the crab we picked ourselves came out perfectly steamed! It arrived fully prepped, so we could dig in easily without needing scissors or any effort. The legs and body were packed full of meat — the happiness of scooping a heaping spoonful and popping it in my mouth is still unforgettable!

Overall review of Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang

The portion and meat yield were so good that the two of us filled up on crab alone — a truly happy, satisfying meal. I immediately understood why this is such a famous Pohang Jukdo Market restaurant.

Unfortunately, we were too full to try the complimentary fried rice and spicy stew included with the table setting. But since the clam soup that came standard was so refreshing and spicy, I'm confident the spicy stew would be just as good!

If you're visiting Gallilli Daegae Hoe Sikdang while searching for good Pohang restaurants or Pohang crab spots, definitely grab the Naver Place coupons (discount, seafood ramyeon, drink coupons, etc.) and pace yourself so you can enjoy the full course — fried rice and spicy stew included! That's it for now, bye!
