Kid-friendly galbi restaurant in Jeju: tortilla wraps at Jeju Udae
In short
Jeju Udae is a straw-fire udae galbi (thick-cut beef short rib) restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju, a short drive from Jeju Airport. On a weekend lunch with a 5-year-old, the table shared straw-fire raw udae galbi for two at 64,000 won, doubanjiang kkakdugi fried rice at 7,000 won and snow rice cold noodles at 8,000 won, and the best parts were wrapping the beef and shredded radish in a tortilla and the beef radish soup. Even a child who normally spits out tough meat kept asking for more, making Jeju Udae a family meal spot worth booking with grandparents.

I'd heard rumors of a straw-fire-scented udae galbi restaurant right in the heart of Nohyeong-dong near Jeju Airport, so the whole family headed out for a weekend lunch. It's the kind of place where a neatly laid-out table just puts you in a good mood — let me tell you about the visit.

What Jeju Udae in Nohyeong-dong looks like, and what side dishes come out
Jeju Udae Nohyeong branch is a straw-fire udae galbi restaurant on the 1st floor of 39 Noyeon-ro, Jeju-si. Walking in, the slightly dim, upscale interior immediately caught my eye.

Through the glass you could clearly see the straw-fire pre-grilling area and a fridge full of fresh meat, which instantly boosted my trust in the place.

After ordering, the basic side dishes arrived and they felt thoughtfully put together. Just for dipping the meat, they give you five different sauces.
The five house-made dipping sauces at Jeju Udae
- A special salt that isn't too salty
- A savory sesame leaf olive oil sauce
- A fiery cheongyang chili paste
- A mild garlic sauce that completely won me over
- And traditional ssamjang on top of that
It was fun picking whichever one matched my mood.

The banchan (Korean side dishes) served with the galbi
- Lemon cucumber pickles that cut through richness
- Coleslaw you can't stop eating with the meat
- Green tangerine onion pickles that taste distinctly of Jeju
- Well-fermented pa-kimchi (green onion kimchi) that hits the spot

And then there was the shredded radish, sliced as thin as thread, sweet and spicy — this shredded radish turned out to be the real MVP.
Beef radish soup: the dish to spoon over a child's rice
The moment I took a spoonful of the beef radish soup that came as a side dish, I thought, "Wait, what's their recipe?" — my eyes lit up. The depth of flavor was on a whole different level, and it was packed with tender beef and radish, making it a great dish to mix into rice for a child.
Straw-fire udae galbi grilled tableside, and how a 5-year-old ate it
We ordered the signature straw-fire raw udae galbi for two (₩64,000), doubanjiang kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice (₩7,000), and snow rice noodles (₩8,000).

Big udae galbi bones and meat, full of straw-fire aroma, arrived along with king oyster mushrooms and kkwarigochu (shishito-style peppers).

A staff member trimmed and grilled it right at our table, and placed the first perfectly grilled piece on our plate. The moment it hit my mouth, "melts in your mouth" was the exact phrase — it was that soft and savory. Even my 5-year-old Migang, who usually spits out meat if it's even slightly tough, kept opening her mouth like a baby bird for more!

How to wrap the beef and shredded radish in a tortilla
The restaurant's recommended way to eat was pretty unique too. Lightly grilling a tortilla on the plate, then wrapping it with mayo sauce, coleslaw, shredded radish and the meat — it was such an addictive combination that my hand kept reaching for more, no matter how much I ate.
Doubanjiang kkakdugi fried rice and snow rice cold noodles to finish
The meat still clinging to the udae galbi bones gets stir-fried into the fried rice if you order it, or grilled separately if you don't. We ordered the fried rice, and the Chinese-style fried rice, spiced up with doubanjiang, topped generously with chewy bone-clinging meat, was delicious.

The snow rice noodles we ordered for our daughter came with the spicy sauce and shredded radish served separately. We scooped out the plain white noodles for Migang, then mixed the sauce and shredded radish into the rest for ourselves — the broth's deep flavor and the sweet-spicy shredded radish made it, hands down, the best naengmyeon (cold noodles) I've had recently.
Is Jeju Udae worth it for a family meal with a young child?
From the meat to the side dishes to the main dishes, every single thing felt made with care — a real standout among Nohyeong, Jeju restaurants. All through the meal I kept thinking, "I definitely need to bring both sets of grandparents here sometime."
