Yeondong, Jeju beef grill with garlic yukhoe: Dolgyeok Hanwoo
In short
Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a 1++ hanwoo (Korean beef) grill restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju City. On day four of a Jeju trip spent eating nothing but black pork, the writer stopped in for two servings of hanwoo special cuts and one serving of manong (garlic) galbisal, then added hanwoo garlic yukhoe (raw beef) with gamtae seaweed at her husband's insistence. Between the five dipping sauces and unlimited refills of 1++ brisket miyeokguk, Dolgyeok Hanwoo was the most memorable restaurant of the whole trip.

My husband and I had been eating only black pork every day in Jeju. On day four, he said he was done with pork — time for hanwoo (Korean beef). So we stopped by a Jeju beef restaurant in Yeondong. My husband said Dolgyeok Hanwoo was the best restaurant of the whole trip... an unforgettable meal. I loved it too.

Parking at Dolgyeok Hanwoo: use the Sinjeju public lot with a rental car
Dolgyeok Hanwoo is on the 1st floor of 12 Yeondong 11-gil, Jeju City. There's a small lot in front, but not many spaces. Since we had a rental car, we checked parking before heading over!

On Naver Maps we found a public parking lot 3 minutes on foot, so we just parked at Sinjeju public parking lot. *Sinjeju public parking lot: 52 Sindaero 12-gil, Jeju City The first 30 minutes are free, and it's ₩2,000/hour after that — cheap. We got an extra 50% off with our electric car, so it was even cheaper.

Dolgyeok Hanwoo break time: 3 pm to 5 pm, last order 2:10 pm
We visited after peak hours, and honestly, if we'd come any later we'd have been in trouble — there's a break time. It runs from 3 to 5 pm, with last order at 2:10 pm. Check before you go!
What is on the Dolgyeok Hanwoo menu?
For grilled items, the first order has to be at least 300g. The grill menu includes chadolbagi (thinly sliced beef brisket), galbisal (plain or manong/garlic-style), special cuts, and cubed black pork neck.

There's also yukhoe (Korean-style raw beef) as a side, plus meal items like yukhoe bibimbap, jjajang jjapaghetti, hanwoo doenjang jjigae, mustard-leaf kimchi bibim noodles, and doenjang sulbap!
Side dishes and unlimited 1++ brisket miyeokguk refills
The staff at Dolgyeok Hanwoo were really kind! They kept checking if we needed more side dishes and explained how to enjoy each cut best. Their attentive service made the whole meal even better.

The side dishes and sauces were beautifully arranged, and the spicy-sweet, crunchy geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi) was delicious!

And the 1++ hanwoo brisket miyeokguk (seaweed soup) is unlimited refill — the quality was good enough that it could easily be sold as its own dish. My husband doesn't usually eat miyeokguk, so I was surprised to see him scooping it up with a ladle here.
Hanwoo special cuts for two plus one serving of manong galbisal
We ordered two servings of hanwoo special cuts and one serving of manong galbisal at Dolgyeok Hanwoo.

They say the hanwoo special cuts taste best cooked to about 80%, not fully done. The recommended way to eat: first dip in salt, then try it with yuksashimi sauce, wholegrain mustard, and wasabi.

Cooked to just this point, the flavor really comes through.

Why manong galbisal is a blend of paired rib cuts
▲ Manong galbisal The galbisal here was different from other grill restaurants. Dolgyeok Hanwoo blends top-grade 1++ hanwoo paired ribs (intercostal, flower, and chuck flap meat). The manong galbisal comes pre-seasoned in garlic sauce as soon as it's ordered.

Manong galbisal is best cooked to about 90%. Since it's already seasoned, try it plain first, then dip it in manong sauce.
How to use the five dipping sauces at Dolgyeok Hanwoo
The sauces served alongside the meat at Dolgyeok Hanwoo are salt, manong-gochu ganjang (garlic chili soy sauce), yuksashimi sauce, wholegrain mustard & wasabi, and manong sauce.

There's a guide showing how well each cut should be cooked and the best way to enjoy it.

▲ Manong sauce and garlic chili soy sauce Dipping in a base sauce first, then adding another, made it even tastier.

When the manong sauce is heated, the garlic softens and it gets nicely thickened. They said it's the same sauce used in the manong galbisal — and for me, it was the best sauce of all.

My husband's favorite by far was the yuksashimi sauce. He dipped everything in it — the special cuts, the galbisal, even the yukhoe.
The combo of wholegrain mustard & wasabi with garlic chili soy sauce and yuksashimi sauce was also fantastic, and worked great with both the special cuts and the manong galbisal.
The extra order: hanwoo garlic yukhoe with gamtae seaweed
We'd actually planned to stop after the grilled dishes, but my husband strongly insisted we add an order — he said if the hanwoo here is this good, there's a 99.9% chance the garlic yukhoe would be great too!

So we ordered the hanwoo garlic yukhoe with gamtae.

Good call — the yukhoe was soft and nutty, a real treat.

My husband wrapped the yukhoe in gamtae, topped it with his beloved yuksashimi sauce, and said eating hanwoo made him happy — he scraped the bowl clean.

Dolgyeok Hanwoo also has dessert ready — gujwa carrot juice. It's healthy and refreshing, a nice way to finish the meal.
We finally met real, proper hanwoo on our Jeju trip. If you're craving grilled hanwoo, dolgyeok (charge) straight to this Jeju beef restaurant!
