Korean BBQ restaurant in Jeju with a 5-year-old: Dolgyeok Hanwoo

In short

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) charcoal grill restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju City, near Jeju Airport. The writer grilled 2 servings of chadolbagi (thin beef brisket) and 1 serving of manong galbisal (garlic-marinated short rib meat), and the beef-packed miyeokguk (seaweed soup) that comes free with the meal was so good her 5-year-old finished a whole bowl of rice with it, so no kids' menu was needed. Between the garlic soy sauce and the spicy doenjang (soybean paste) stew, nothing missed at Dolgyeok Hanwoo, and a repeat visit is already confirmed.

Today I really want to strongly recommend this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My Dolgyeok Hanwoo review 🔥 Wow, I left seriously satisfied.

First look upon arriving at Dolgyeok Hanwoo in Yeondong, Jeju

Where is Dolgyeok Hanwoo in Jeju?

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) charcoal grill restaurant on the 1st floor of 12 Yeondong-11-gil, Jeju-si. It's open daily 12:00–15:00 and 17:00–23:00, with last order at 2:10pm for lunch and 9:50pm for dinner. There's parking for 3 cars in front of the restaurant.

A Jeju beef restaurant that looks clean from the interior on

I think this is exactly where I can confidently call it a Jeju beef restaurant worth visiting. Dolgyeok Hanwoo is spotless from the entrance — the kind of look younger folks love these days — and the inside is clean and modern while still full of Korean character.

The Jeju-style beef cuts worth ordering at Dolgyeok Hanwoo

This place absolutely needs to be on the list of spots near Jeju Airport, honestly it should be on TV soon. From the classic beef cuts to the Jeju-style manong galbisal, ugh... you really have to try this. They even have a separate Chinese-language menu, which told me right away how popular this place is.

What side dishes and house sauces come with the meal?

At Dolgyeok Hanwoo, the charcoal goes up and a spread of tasty side dishes and special sauces gets set down.

Wrapping greens served like a salad with bossam kimchi

The wrapping greens come out fresh like a light salad, so my hand kept reaching for them, and the kimchi... it was so good, a sweet bossam-style kimchi haha. The sauces that come with the meat are all house-made specials too, so whatever you dipped in, nothing missed.

Simmered garlic soy sauce

This garlic soy sauce is a treasure. It's simmered like myeolchijeot (salted anchovy sauce), wow... you could really tell a lot of work went into developing this sauce. It's great for dipping meat, and if you mix it into rice... you can polish off a whole bowl with just that.

Can you bring a young child? The free miyeokguk solved dinner

Dolgyeok Hanwoo's default miyeokguk (seaweed soup) is seriously amazing — even the version that comes standard is packed with beef, and the broth is deep and bursting with umami, so much so that my 5-year-old said it was really delicious and polished off a whole bowl of rice with it haha. We didn't even need to order a separate kids' menu — just feeding her this was enough, which made me really satisfied.

Melt-in-your-mouth chadolbagi, then more and more manong galbisal

For meat, we ordered 2 servings of chadolbagi (beef brisket) and 1 serving of manong galbi, and the chadolbagi really does melt in your mouth. The balance of fat and lean meat is perfect, so it's not greasy at all and your chopsticks just keep going back.

Additional order of manong galbisal

We added another serving of manong galbisal. It was so good that ............ the sweet-and-salty balance in the marinade is perfectly set, with a subtle, clean hint of manong (garlic) that keeps calling you back.

Doenjang stew is a must, with Gujwa carrot juice to finish

Spicy doenjang stew loaded with meat and vegetables

Dolgyeok Hanwoo's doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) had a richness I hadn't tasted at any other barbecue place. Loaded with meat and vegetables, and spicy, it was perfect for finishing off with fried rice after the meat.

Finishing with fried rice in the doenjang stew

I haven't tried the other menu items, but with this level of quality, I feel like I could trust anything on the menu.

Complimentary gujwa carrot juice

Even the carrot juice the friendly owner brought out for us — Dolgyeok Hanwoo really put together a complete meal in every way! I finished the meal feeling great 🥕

Close-up of the beloved garlic soy sauce

Ending with a photo of that sauce I love so much haha. To anyone looking for a Jeju beef restaurant, or a good spot near Jeju Airport, I strongly recommend this place to all of you. A repeat visit is already confirmed for me! What about you — are you team chadolbagi or team galbisal when you eat beef? I don't think I can live without manong galbisal anymore hahaha.
