Jeju beef grill with special cuts and doenjang stew: Dolgyeok Hanwoo
In short
Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a Korean beef (hanwoo) and Jeju black pork restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju, about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport. The meal started with manong galbisal (garlic-marinated rib meat), hanwoo galbisal and cubed black pork jowl, and was good enough to add hanwoo special cuts at 32,000 won per 100g and the 8,000-won Dolgyeok Hanwoo doenjang stew (soybean paste stew), followed by a complimentary cold-pressed carrot juice. The garlic-marinated manong galbisal was the most memorable cut of the day.

This time I went to Dolgyeok Hanwoo, where you can eat both hanwoo (Korean beef) and Jeju black pork in one place.
Where is Dolgyeok Hanwoo in Jeju?

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a meat restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju, about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport.
- 12 Yeondong 11-gil, Jeju-si, Jeju, South Korea, 1st floor
- Daily 12:00–23:00
- Break time 15:00–17:00

Being close to the airport, it seems like a good spot to work into your route on your first or last day of the trip.

There's a bench outside where you can sit while waiting — so nice!

The interior was clean and the tables were spaced comfortably enough to eat at ease.

Even though it's a hanwoo specialty restaurant, they also have Jeju black pork on the menu, so you can enjoy both kinds in one sitting — I liked that too.

Seeing them trim the meat right there in front of you makes my trust shoot way up haha.
Personally, galbisal is my favorite cut, haha.

There are plenty of round tables as well as square ones. Seems great for a big family group!

There's also a review event, so don't miss it!
What comes with the table setting at Dolgyeok Hanwoo?
First, charcoal comes out along with four kinds of sauce, seasoned lettuce, kimchi, and pickled side dishes. Seasoned lettuce always shows up when you're eating meat, and it would feel like something's missing without it, haha.
Crunchy kimchi and pickled side dishes came out too. Loved it, haha.
Along with salt and wasabi, side dishes and sauces that go well with the meat were also prepared: salt, ssamjang (dipping paste), wasabi, whole grain mustard, and a sauce in chili oil.
In between, if the flames flare up too much when meat is placed on the grill, they let you spray extinguishing liquid to calm it down.

And this miyeokguk (seaweed soup) was also excellent. It's beef miyeokguk, and ordering a bowl of rice with it would be great for feeding a baby too.
The first three cuts ordered at Dolgyeok Hanwoo

What we ordered first was manong galbisal (₩27,000), hanwoo galbisal (₩27,000), and black pork cubed pork jowl (₩22,000).
Hanwoo galbisal: tender and nutty

We put the hanwoo galbisal on the charcoal grill first. Since beef can lose its juices if cooked too long, we browned only the surface and ate it right away.
The hanwoo galbisal was tender with just the right chewiness, and the savory juices spread through my mouth with every bite.

For the first bite, I dipped it lightly in just salt to enjoy the meat's natural flavor, then tried it with a bit of wasabi for a clean finish.

Honestly, galbisal is delicious enough with just salt, haha.
I also dipped it into Dolgyeok Hanwoo's special sauce. At black pork places you often get a lot of myeoljeot (fermented anchovy sauce) — this one was really tasty too.

I always make sure to eat some fiber with my meat, like lettuce or perilla leaves, haha.
Thick cubed black pork jowl
After the hanwoo galbisal, we grilled the black pork cubed pork jowl. It came in thicker cubes than typical pork jowl, and we turned it front, back, and sideways to get it evenly browned.
The surface picked up a subtle charcoal aroma while the inside stayed juicy, giving it a great chewy texture.
Good enough to add hanwoo special cuts
We meant to stop at what we'd ordered first, but it was so much better than expected that we added the hanwoo special cuts (₩32,000).

The special cuts looked fresh from the moment they arrived on the plate, with vivid color and marbling.
We also ordered the Dolgyeok Hanwoo doenjang stew to eat alongside the meat. It came out bubbling with plenty of vegetables and ingredients, looking really hearty. There was so much packed into that doenjang stew that I thought one bowl of rice with it alone would be filling, haha.
We grilled each piece on the charcoal one at a time, cooking just enough to keep the juices in. Each cut had its own degree of tenderness, texture, and savory flavor, which made it fun to compare as we ate.

Rather than adding a lot of extra seasoning, it was plenty delicious with just salt or wasabi.

The fact that we ended up adding more meat should tell you just how good this meal was, right?
Manong galbisal, the most memorable cut of the day

Of everything we ate that day, the most memorable was the manong galbisal.

Manong is Jeju dialect for garlic, and the marinade combining galbisal with garlic was genuinely delicious.

It had a sweet, savory-salty umami with the sharp kick of garlic and a nutty aroma layered on top, making for a flavor that really stuck with you.

The combination of tender galbisal and garlic marinade was so good I kept reaching for more. Garlic really doesn't disappoint. The manong galbisal also went perfectly with plain white rice — a great dish!
Cold-pressed carrot juice served after the meal
After the meal, they served freshly pressed carrot juice. After eating so much rich, fatty meat, carrot juice as a palate cleanser was so refreshing, haha.
If you're looking for a place in Yeondong, Jeju to eat hanwoo and black pork together, or a meat restaurant near Jeju Airport, Dolgyeok Hanwoo is worth a visit.

Especially if you love garlic, you have to try the manong galbisal :)
