Brisket and 5 dipping sauces at Jeju beef restaurant Dolgyeok Hanwoo

In short

Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju City, about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport. Manong galbisal (garlic short rib meat), hanwoo galbisal and dolgyeok chadolbaegi (beef brisket) were charcoal-grilled and eaten with five different sauces — salt, wasabi, wholegrain mustard, ssamjang and soy sauce — with free refills of miyeokguk (seaweed soup). I felt like it was such a waste to eat only black pork on this Jeju trip, so I went wandering around craving proper hanwoo (Korean beef) and ended up demolishing a meal at this Jeju beef spot, Dolgyeok Hanwoo — here's the review haha

Where is Dolgyeok Hanwoo? About 10 minutes from Jeju Airport

Arrived at Dolgyeok Hanwoo, a Jeju beef spot ★ It's about 10 minutes from Jeju Airport, so I'd recommend it for your first or last meal on a Jeju trip haha

The meat came out generously on one plate — the moment I saw how clearly the color and marbling differed between cuts, my mouth started watering haha The fat threaded densely through the bright red flesh looked especially delicious @

Free miyeokguk refills and what to order to finish the meal

Dolgyeok Hanwoo, a Jeju beef spot 🔥🔥🔥 The moment the surface turns golden brown on the grill is really hard to resist! The 1++ hanwoo brisket and miyeokguk (seaweed soup) are unlimited refill~ Super-fresh yukhoe (raw beef) tastes even better eaten with gamtae (sea moss).

For the Sichuan-style jjajang jjapagetti, it's good to mix rice into the leftover sauce after finishing the noodles. There's also Gujwa carrot juice ready after the meal — if you go find a staff member, they'll give you one, haha. There was even a Chinese-language menu, so it'd be great to bring foreign friends here~

Wow~ you could even watch the meat being minced right in front of you, which felt reassuring..! ♥ The lineup of fresh meat is too good to just walk past @

Salt, wasabi, mustard: how the five sauces pair with the beef

From salt to wasabi, wholegrain mustard, ssamjang and a soy-based sauce, a whole range was set out~

It's fun switching up the combination bite by bite, and personally, with really good hanwoo I think it's tastiest with just a light dip in wasabi or salt rather than piling on lots of different sauces!

Manong galbisal: why Jeju calls garlic "manong"

My mouth started watering right away, and the fat threaded densely through the bright red flesh looked especially delicious haha What I was most curious about was, of course, the manong galbisal! In Jeju, garlic is called manong.

Garlic piled generously on manong galbisal

True to its name, the galbisal came piled generously with garlic~ As soon as it went on the charcoal, the garlic and beef fat cooked together and a savory smell burst out.

Besides dolgyeok chadolbaegi, manong galbisal and hanwoo galbisal, there are also hanwoo specialty cuts and black pork cubed pork jowl, plus rice and noodle dishes like hanwoo manong yukhoe bibimbap, Sichuan-style jjajang jjapagetti, doenjang sulbap and doenjang jjigae~

Grilled dishes and meal menu items at Dolgyeok Hanwoo

Grilling hanwoo galbisal so it stays juicy

With hanwoo galbisal, if you cook it just enough to keep some juice in rather than grilling it hard, the juice spreads moistly in your mouth and a savory flavor rises~

Dolgyeok chadolbaegi: brisket that cooks in seconds

Because it's so thin, chadolbaegi (sliced beef brisket) cooks on the charcoal almost instantly~ The edges curl up slightly first while the fat sizzles, and with one bite the savory flavor of the fat spreads right through your mouth haha

Parking at Dolgyeok Hanwoo and would I go back?
