Yangyang sashimi restaurant with a 2-person takeout set: Yangyangbada

In short

Yangyangbada is a sashimi restaurant known for takeout on Nammun9-gil in Yangyang-eup, Yangyang, Gangwon. On a trip to a pet-friendly pension with her dog, the writer phoned ahead for the 2-person special set and laid out halibut sashimi, abalone and nurungji ojingeo sundae (squid stuffed with crispy scorched rice) back at the room. The set was more than two people could finish, making Yangyangbada an easy pick when you want sashimi to go and eat at your accommodation in Yangyang.

Why sashimi to go: a pet-friendly pension trip in Yangyang

A Yangyang trip with our dog Hyuji! My husband and I love raw fish so much that whenever we travel to Gangwon-do we always have to eat it, but this time we were staying at a dog-friendly pension with Hyuji, so we got takeout from Yangyangbada, a raw fish restaurant in Yangyang.

The 2-person special set ordered for takeout

Planning to eat comfortably at the accommodation, we ordered the 2-person special set, and since it let us enjoy several dishes at once, it was great for a hearty meal. It was more than enough for the two of us to eat until we were full!

Yangyangbada's menu and how to phone in a takeout order

Yangyangbada's menu was quite varied — special set menus, regular set menus, live fish sashimi, rice dishes, seafood, spicy fish stew, and add-ons.

Yangyangbada is a Yangyang raw fish restaurant famous for takeout, so I'd recommend calling to reserve your order 2 to 3 hours before you plan to visit!

Takeout order picked up after a phone reservation

Because we ordered by phone in advance, we could pick it up right away without waiting. Sashimi orders come with chojang (vinegar-chili sauce), lettuce wraps, and vegetables, which made the raw fish even more enjoyable.

How did the halibut sashimi taste?

Once we got to the pension, we opened up the special set we'd packed from Yangyangbada for dinner, starting with the halibut sashimi I'd been most looking forward to!

Halibut sashimi from the special set

When I picked up a piece of the halibut, I could feel a chewy yet springy texture, and the more I chewed, the more a clean, mild flavor rose up. It didn't have the strong fishy taste raw fish can have — it was mild, so I kept reaching for more without any hesitation. The pleasantly springy texture made it fun to chew, and dipping it in chojang added a sweet-and-sour kick that really woke up my appetite.

Halibut sashimi with soy sauce and wasabi

Pairing it with soy sauce and wasabi let the halibut's own clean flavor come through even more. My husband, who really loves halibut among all raw fish, was impressed and said it was delicious. And the portion was so generous that we stuffed ourselves on halibut alone! ♥

Abalone and nurungji ojingeo sundae in the 2-person set

Next up was the abalone we'd chosen from the seafood options, which I couldn't skip. With the first bite, I felt its distinctive springy, bouncy texture, and as I chewed, a mild ocean aroma and nutty flavor rose up.

If halibut has a clean, mild flavor, abalone has a richer, nuttier charm, so alternating between the two let us enjoy different textures and flavors, which was great. Thanks to the abalone's distinctive chewiness, the flavor came through even more the slower I chewed, and eating it alongside the sashimi felt like properly enjoying a full seafood spread.

Plate of nurungji squid sundae

Personally, the dish that felt most unique was the nurungji squid sundae (crispy rice-stuffed squid sausage) — with the squid's signature chewy texture and a hearty filling, it felt satisfying from the very first bite. On top of that, the nutty flavor of nurungji (crispy scorched rice) added a charm quite different from a regular squid sundae. The outer squid was chewy while the inside was soft and moist, giving a nice contrast in texture, and the nutty flavor spread more the more I chewed — a taste that quietly kept drawing me back.

Especially after eating cold, mild dishes like halibut sashimi and abalone, adding the warm, nutty nurungji squid sundae made the meal feel even more varied. Totally satisfied with the lineup! Spreading it all out comfortably at the pension and eating our way through halibut, abalone, and nurungji squid sundae one by one was such an easy, satisfying way to enjoy it — the halibut's mild chewiness, the abalone's springy nuttiness, and the squid sundae's chewy, savory flavor were all different, so it was fun switching between them, too.

Raw fish and seafood spread enjoyed at the accommodation

Is Yangyangbada worth another sashimi takeout in Yangyang?

Craving raw fish during our Yangyang trip, the 2-person special set we took out from Yangyangbada was a satisfying meal that let us enjoy a range of dishes at once, from halibut to abalone to nurungji squid sundae. Eating it comfortably at the accommodation was also great, since it let us relax and enjoy the travel mood while we ate.

It's a place that'll come to mind whenever I want to get raw fish or seafood to go in Yangyang, so if I visit Yangyang again, I'd love to stop by and try other menu items as well. If you're looking for a good raw fish takeout spot in Yangyang, I recommend visiting Yangyangbada — the owner is kind, and the sashimi, seafood, and nurungji sundae are all delicious!
