Sutbul Seonghwa is a charcoal beef grill house on Songpadae-ro 48-gil near Seokchon Station in Songpa, Seoul, and it is corkage-free, so guests can bring their own wine. Lately when I head to Seokchon Lake for a date, eating a meal and then walking a loop around the lake has become my favorite combo. This time I wanted somewhere with a bit more atmosphere to have beef and wine together, so I went to Sutbul Seonghwa, a Korean BBQ restaurant near Seokchon Station.

What's special here is that it's corkage-free, so before heading over we stopped by Lotte Department Store and picked out a bottle of wine to bring ourselves 🍷 Charcoal-grilled beef plus red wine turned out to be a great combo, and since the walk to Seokchon Lake followed right after dinner, it made for a pretty satisfying date course.
Where is Sutbul Seonghwa? An easy walk from Seokchon Station
Sutbul Seonghwa is located at 17 Songpadae-ro 48-gil, Songpa-gu, Seoul — an easy walk from Seokchon Station.
Even from outside, it felt more like a proper restaurant than your typical Korean BBQ spot! The red lighting and clean exterior made it stand out.

Inside, the place was bigger and cleaner than I expected. The tables weren't cramped and the overall interior felt calm — surprisingly atmospheric for a beef restaurant. There was also a wine and liquor display on one side, which made it feel like a good fit for anyone in Jamsil looking for a beef restaurant, a date spot, or a place for a gathering.

What's in the 400g Seonghwa platter, and how does it taste?
We ordered the Seonghwa Assorted 400g. According to the order screen, it comes as 240g sirloin + 160g wine-marinated short rib.

The first thing I noticed the moment the beef arrived was the marbling! The thick-cut beef looked so good even before we started grilling.

And as the name suggests, this place has you grill everything yourself over charcoal. Putting the meat on the hot coals and watching it sizzle away — the smell that came up was really good.

For the sirloin, we didn't grill it too long — just enough to sear the outside — and it came out soft with a nice nutty flavor. There were plenty of dips to try too, like salt and wasabi, so it was fun switching it up — a light touch of salt first, then wasabi on the next bite.

The basic banchan (side dishes) went really well with the beef too. White kimchi, scallion shreds, minari, and radish salad all made good palate cleansers between bites, so the beef never felt too heavy. Personally I love it when a beef restaurant serves this many side dishes — that was a nice touch :)
Corkage-free: we brought a Barbera wine from Lotte Department Store 🍷
And here's the part I liked most about Sutbul Seonghwa — being corkage-free! So we stopped by Lotte Department Store and picked out a red wine ourselves to drink with the beef.

This time we chose Vietti Barbera d'Asti Trevìe 2022, a Barbera wine from the Piedmont region of Italy.
Barbera has a noticeably bright acidity, and that worked really well against the richness of the beef — it refreshed the palate after every bite. It wasn't a heavy, overpowering wine, so it paired nicely with the charcoal-smoked meat too.

A bite of beef, a sip of wine — it stopped feeling like just a beef dinner and started feeling like a proper date night. Being able to bring your own favorite wine is definitely a big plus.
If you're looking for a corkage-free restaurant in Jamsil, or somewhere to enjoy wine with beef, this one's worth remembering.
A beef grill house that feels more like a restaurant
Eating there, I could see why people choose this place for dates or gatherings. It's a Korean BBQ restaurant, but the interior is clean, every table has its own charcoal grill, and the overall vibe leans more restaurant than typical BBQ joint. Photos come out nice too, so if you bring wine like we did, it makes for an even more atmospheric evening.

A Seokchon Lake night walk after dinner
We weren't ready to head straight home after the meal, so we walked to Seokchon Lake.

Seokchon Lake at night has a completely different vibe. It's great for a slow walk in cooler weather, and you get to take in the night view too — the perfect way to end a dinner date!
So if you're looking for a restaurant in Songni-dan-gil or a date course around Seokchon Lake, pairing beef and wine at Sutbul Seonghwa with a night walk around Seokchon Lake afterward is a great combo. And picking up a bottle of wine at Lotte Department Store like we did makes it even more fun :)
Honest review of Sutbul Seonghwa
There are so many beef restaurants near Seokchon Station these days, but what stuck with me about this one is that it's not just about the beef — you get to enjoy wine alongside it too.

Being corkage-free meant I could bring my own favorite wine, and between the charcoal-grilled beef, sips of red wine, and finishing off with the night view at Seokchon Lake, it was a really satisfying dinner date.

If you're looking for a good beef restaurant in Jamsil, a date spot near Songni-dan-gil, or an atmospheric BBQ place close to Seokchon Lake, this one's worth checking out :)
