A filling review of a solo-diner-friendly black garlic ssambap set meal at a Danyang restaurant near Gyeonggyeong Market (구경시장)
While traveling in Danyang, I found out garlic is famous there and really wanted to try a garlic dish at least once. But traveling solo, getting a meal turned out to be harder than I expected. Looking for somewhere to eat that day, I got turned away at a whopping five places for only accepting orders of two or more. I was hungry and kept getting rejected, and just as I was starting to wear down, I found Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap!
When I visited, they let me order a single portion of the black garlic boiled pork ssambap, and I was genuinely so relieved. So personally, this restaurant stuck with me not just for the taste but for the fact that solo dining in Danyang was actually possible here. Let me break it all down!

Can one person order a single portion at Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap?
If you're traveling solo like me, this is probably the biggest question. Since it's a ssambap (wrap rice) place, I worried I might need to order for two minimum, but when I visited, the black garlic boiled pork ssambap could be ordered as a single portion.
Having just been turned away five times in a row before this, I was even more grateful. The moment I placed my order, my mood lifted so much — finally, I get to eat! Haha. If you're traveling alone in Danyang and looking for a Korean restaurant where solo dining is possible, definitely keep this in mind!

The front of the restaurant had menu photos and TV feature clips posted up. You could see the black garlic boiled pork and black garlic ssambap at a glance, getting a preview of the menu mood before even stepping inside.

On one wall were photos of past visitors and signatures. The restaurant had a modest, homey feel, and there was no wait, so I could go straight in!
Inside Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap: seating and atmosphere

Inside Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap, the space was decorated mostly with wood-toned tables. It was an overall bright, clean Korean restaurant vibe, comfortable for eating solo.

The seating wasn't too cramped either. Even with quite a few diners in, there was enough room to spread out a full table setting.

Basic tableware and water were already set at the table. It was easy to sit down and order right away even alone, and the tabletop was neatly arranged!
Menu prices and how tablet ordering works

Black garlic squid ssambap ₩17,000, black garlic pork ssambap ₩17,000, black garlic boiled pork ssambap ₩19,000. The menu board listed these three signature dishes!

Ordering was done via a tablet at the table. At the time of my visit, the black garlic boiled pork ssambap could be ordered as a single portion, while the black garlic pork ssambap and black garlic squid stir-fry ssambap required orders of two or more. There was also a notice asking elementary-school-age diners and up to order one dish per person. I ordered the black garlic boiled pork ssambap as a single portion!
What comes with the 19,000-won black garlic boiled pork ssambap, and how does it taste?

The dish I picked was the black garlic boiled pork ssambap at ₩19,000. It wasn't just a plate of boiled pork — it came with garlic rice, wrap greens, doenjang (strong soybean paste), side dishes, and stew, filling the whole table. Even eating alone, the table felt properly set, not sparse at all.
Honestly, hearing 'black garlic,' I expected something heavy and a bit greasy. But once I tried it, the flavor was more distinctive than I expected. It felt different from the usual boiled pork ssambap I've had, which made it more memorable — and the boiled pork looked genuinely delicious the moment it arrived, which was oddly exciting.

The full black garlic boiled pork ssambap spread finally arrived! Boiled pork, garlic rice, stew, wrap greens — even as a solo meal, the spread was really substantial. With the side dishes laid out too, the table was completely full. There was no emptiness at all despite eating alone — it felt like a proper full meal.

The first thing that caught my eye the moment the food arrived was how the boiled pork looked. It looked genuinely delicious, which got me oddly excited, and the black garlic sauce on top made an impression too.

The accompanying side dishes were also easy to pick at one by one. Being able to mix up the wrap combinations a little each time made the whole spread feel more varied.

The side dishes weren't just one or two kinds — there were several. Kimchi, seasoned vegetables, and pickled items were each served in small portions, good for adding to the wraps.

The wrap greens were also generously prepared. With the doenjang served alongside, there were lots of ways to combine it with the pork! One note — leftover food can't be packed to go!

A lettuce leaf loaded with garlic rice, pork, and side dishes in one bite! True to a ssambap restaurant, there was real enjoyment in mixing your own combinations, and it definitely felt like a hearty meal.

The stew also came out hot in a stone pot. With tofu and vegetables in it, it paired well with the garlic rice!
Why this Danyang meal stayed with me as a solo traveler
What makes this restaurant stand out most in my memory is that after being told 'two or more only' at five places in a row, I finally found somewhere that would serve me alone. So for anyone looking for a restaurant in Danyang where solo dining is possible, this should be a welcome find.
If you're after a full Korean meal spread among Danyang restaurants in Chungbuk, or want a hearty meal near Gyeonggyeong Market, this place is worth considering.
Receipt review event at Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap

At the time of my visit, there was also a receipt review event. Writing a review got you a free bottle of Dangoeul Sobaeksan raw makgeolli (rice wine) — definitely worth joining in on!
