Danyang restaurant for a late lunch, greens refill: Heukmaneul Ssambap
In short
Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap is a Korean restaurant serving black garlic spicy pork and boiled pork ssambap (rice and meat wrapped in greens), right across the street from Gugyeong Market in Danyang, Chungbuk. For a late lunch we ordered black garlic pork ssambap for two and added black garlic boiled pork, and the portions were so generous that we handed back the extra bowl of rice; when we asked for more wrap greens, the staff brought a basket filled to the brim. With a free public parking lot nearby and Gugyeong Market a short walk away after the meal, Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap made a satisfying lunch stop on a Danyang trip.

Where is Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap, and where do you park?
While traveling around Danyang looking for a good meal, I stopped by Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap. I loved the location right away — it's right across from Danyang Gyeonggyeong Market, just one street away, so it was easy to wander through the market after eating.
Parking at the free public lot and then walking straight from the restaurant into the market made it a really convenient stop to build a travel route around.

The black garlic aroma that greets you at the door
From the second I stepped inside, the sharp, distinctive scent of black garlic filled the air. Even before the food arrived, that smell spreading through the restaurant made it clear I'd come to eat black garlic properly.

This place is known for its black garlic pork and boiled pork ssambap (lettuce wraps), and it's apparently been featured on KBS 2TV's 'Live Info' segment 'Wowhan Restaurant.' Looking around inside, I spotted traces of the broadcast feature and photos from past visitors, including a volleyball team — signs of a genuinely beloved local spot that's earned its reputation over time.

Black garlic pork ssambap for two plus boiled pork: too much rice to finish
We ordered the black garlic pork ssambap for two plus an extra black garlic boiled pork. Since it was a late lunch, we also added an extra bowl of rice — but the portions were so incredibly generous that we ended up returning that extra bowl haha.

What comes with the black garlic ssambap spread
Once the food started coming out, the table filled up fast. Along with the main dish, a wide variety of side dishes arrived too, and tasting those sides made me expect the main dish would be delicious — sure enough, it didn't disappoint. With the wrap greens set out too, just looking at the table felt satisfying.
The black garlic pork was great wrapped in greens with rice, and the extra black garlic boiled pork was tender and easy to eat. There's a healthy garlic aroma, but since it's fermented black garlic the flavor isn't overpowering — pairing it with the many side dishes and vegetables instead of eating just meat meant I never got tired of it and kept reaching for more.

Ask for more wrap greens and you get a full basket
Partway through, we ran low on vegetables and asked for more, expecting just a small extra serving — instead, they brought out a whole basket filled to the brim. Thanks to that, I piled plenty of greens onto each bite of meat along with the side dishes and wrapped away to my heart's content. If you love ssambap, this kind of generosity will win you over too.
The portions were so filling I was still full by evening~~ After the meal we wandered around Danyang Gyeonggyeong Market for a while, and even by 9pm I wasn't very hungry. In the end, dinner was just some light fruit instead of anything heavy. The blue crab doenjang stew (soybean paste soup) was excellent too.
Why Danyang Heukmaneul Ssambap fits a Danyang travel day
After finishing our meal, we headed straight to Danyang Gyeonggyeong Market right across the street. Since it's really just one street to cross, it was easy to combine the meal and market browsing into one route, and having parked at the free public lot meant no parking worries at all — really convenient.
From the distinctive black garlic aroma to the generous spread and the extra-generous wrap greens, this meal was thoroughly satisfying. I was curious since it's well-known enough to have been on TV, and after trying it myself, I understood why so many people seek it out while traveling in Danyang. If you're looking for a hearty Korean meal near Danyang Gyeonggyeong Market, I'd strongly recommend adding this to your itinerary.
