Pangyo Station beef soup restaurant: clear gomtang set for two, Useum

Today I'm introducing Useum Pangyo Branch (우슴 판교점), where my husband and I had a weekday lunch last week 🤗 Lately I keep suddenly craving a soup that's clean but deep in flavor. My husband happened to be in the mood for a hearty Korean meal too, so we headed to this well-reviewed place near Pangyo.

Where is Useum Pangyo Branch? Hours, break time and parking

Useum Pangyo Branch is at 31 Daewangpangyo-ro 606beon-gil, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi, on the 1st floor, and it's open daily from 11:00 to 23:00. Weekday break time is 14:30-16:30 and last order is 21:30; there's no break time on weekends and public holidays.

We parked in the building's basement car park 🅿️ and they registered us for 2 hours of free parking after the meal!!

Useum Pangyo Branch atmosphere and how to book

The exterior has a clean wood-toned look, so it feels both traditional and stylish, like a modern Korean restaurant. There's also a terrace seating area you can use whatever the weather, which makes the whole place feel airier and nicer 🪑

We deliberately avoided the peak rush and came for a late lunch, so luckily we got straight in with no wait.

🔔 At busy times you can join the waiting list in advance through the Catch Table app, and reservations are possible through Naver, so keep that in mind.

Inside, a spacious, neatly kept hall welcomed us!!✨️ With the soft lighting and comfortable spacing between tables, it was lovely to chat with my husband while we ate.

Besides the hall, there are rooms divided off by blinds, which would be great for privacy 👍 I thought it'd suit office workers nearby for meetings or lunch get-togethers, or a family meal out on the weekend.

Useum says it insists on top-grade ingredients bought directly from the source, backed by 38 years of ingredient expertise recognized by the Blue House 👏 They also say you get broth simmered for 8+ hours without a grain of MSG, plus the craft of a third-generation master, so my expectations were up.

What we ordered for two and the side dishes

At Useum Pangyo Branch I chose the clear gomtang set and my husband picked the hangover gomtang, and to share we ordered a nutty mini yukjeon (beef pan-fried in egg batter) and a crispy cheese potato jeon, so quite a spread 📋

After we sat down and ordered, the side dishes arrived neatly arranged in brass bowls.

The well-fermented kimchi and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) passed on looks alone, and there were salty squid jeotgal (salted seafood) and seasoned bean sprouts. Roasted seaweed and seasoned soy sauce rounded it out, so I was happy with the side dish lineup 🤭

How does the clear gomtang at Useum Pangyo Branch taste?

The clear gomtang at Useum Pangyo Branch has plenty of meat and a clean, mild broth. At last my main dish, the clear gomtang, arrived, steaming hot and showing off its clear look 🤤

There was generous, carefully boiled meat, and the clean taste of the broth, which soothes your stomach, was excellent. I could taste the deep, mild flavor of a natural broth made without seasoning additives, and it felt so comfortable in my stomach!!

The table has salt, pepper and perilla seed powder, but the gomtang is already seasoned enough, so I just sprinkled a little pepper to add depth!!

The +7,000 won gomtang set: tteokgalbi and kimchi jeonbyeong

When ordering gomtang at Useum Pangyo Branch, you can add ₩7,000 as an option to turn it into a set that comes with 1 piece of tteokgalbi and 1 piece of jeonbyeong. I switched to this set!!😋

The thick, golden-grilled tteokgalbi was full of sweet-salty, mild juices. The crispy jeonbyeong was packed with kimchi filling, spicy and stuffed full, and it was the best combination with the clear gomtang broth.

Spicy gomtang for a husband who loves a fiery broth

The spicy gomtang at Useum Pangyo Branch is a clear broth stirred with a spicy house seasoning paste (daedagi) for a sharp, refreshing kick. My husband, who loves spicy broth, chose it, and it looked like a hangover cure from the first glance.

The beef offal pieces in the gomtang looked so fresh and plump that I couldn't help but admire them 😙 A spoonful of meat and glass noodles had a hearty texture and slurped right down!!

Lunch-only mini yukjeon and crispy cheese potato pancake

The mini yukjeon at Useum Pangyo Branch can reportedly only be ordered at lunchtime!! We had it as a side.

Thinly sliced beef is lightly coated in egg and grilled very tenderly 👍 Wrapping it in the nutty seasoned chive salad (buchu geotjeori) that comes with it kept it from feeling greasy and boosted the yukjeon's nuttiness and savoriness, so I enjoyed it even more!!

And then there was the thick, crispy cheese potato jeon that my husband and I ate while marveling 🥔 Thinly shredded potato is fried-grilled until crisp, with mozzarella on top in the center 🧀

Dip the crispy edges in tangy ketchup, and dip the melted-cheese center in honey, and both the flavor and the fullness doubled!!🥢

Why Useum Pangyo Branch is a good gomtang lunch near Pangyo Station

The table was full of generous, neat dishes, and every one was clean rather than heavy, so it was a satisfying meal!!🥹

I could totally see why Pangyo office workers come to Useum Pangyo Branch as their go-to lunch near Pangyo Station!!
